Hey recruiting guru-
Remember when the Redskins would scour the little schools and find players nobody wanted. I think they found 3 All-Pro's down at A&M-Kingsville. Anyway, We need big linemen- I bet those 1A,2A and even 3A schools have some great talent that just gets overlooked. Also doesn't Bennett need to get his new coaches in place and get their butt in a rent car with a map heading to homes of prized recruits!!?? Just seems like we are wasting time..... Thanks

So was that addressed to Stallion or Recruiting Guru? They both know a hell of a lot about this stuff. Anyway, my two cents:

Recruiting, as we know, is something of a crapshoot. For every star player who comes out of nowhere, there's also a highly-recruited kid who does absolutely nothing in college. Drafting players in the NFL is only slightly less inexact: the Skins drew huge praise for taking Darrell Green (of Texas A&I -- now Texas A&M-Commerce, I think), and of course he turned out to be one of the greatest CBs ever to play the game. However, they (and every other team) have taken a lot of small-school guys who haven't materialized into players.

It's easier for pro scouts to identify players from small colleges than it is for college coaches to identify players from small high schools, if only because even at a small college, the system of getting the word out (via tapes, the internet, etc.) is more sophisticated than that at many high schools.

Based on what we know about Coach Bennett and his staff, I'd be willing to bet they're out on the road right now, talking with kids. And no, it's not imperitive that his assistant coaches be in place just yet. He'd like to get the hires made, but there are a ton of openings until the coaches have their convention, where there will be as many out-of-work coaches looking for jobs as there are coachies looking for assistants. Lots of very good assistant coaches will be available.

Besides, while Coach Bennett is making these hires, I'd think the recruiting coordinator (I forget his name) would be arranging all the assistants' trips to visit kids.
