McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionlooking at the recuiting listings on the DMN site, it appears the big DT McClinton is now showing high interest in Kansas over SMU. Is he slipping away? I haven't heard much about the local LB, Newhouse, who has good size and is listed as having medium interest in SMU. What's the word on him? Sure would like to see more size being signed in that defensive front seven.
Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionThat's one site (RIVALS). You really cannot tell.
DMNews doesn't even had D. Martin who committed last week in their list. But, that's not to say or disprove that he is more interested in KU - just that you can't read too much into that.
Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionThe Top 100 Lists were created before the season-since Martin was hurt as a Junior he doesn't appear in any list. Any list that doesn't account for a player like Martin who has a great senior year isn't accurate. We've never been in the driver's seat with McClinton. There hasn't been an update on Newhouse in about 8 months-wouldn't be surprised if there was an injury or academic issue-because that's unusual.

Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionThose lists are fun to read, but they're hardly up-to-date. The rumors I've heard is that SMU is now in a two-school race for McClinton, who's pretty much 50-50 between us and Kansas.
I was going to mention Newhouse. Not sure what's going on with him. I've heard he's really a terrific (and sometimes dominant) player, and that he has exceptional speed to go along with that size. On paper he sounds like a really good prospect, but whether he still has any interest in us, I don't know.
Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionI dunno he said he had good trip to Houston too and listed Kansas as his favorite with Houston up there too. The latest story didn't specifically mention SMU as one of his favorites.

Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionBoth Rivals and the Insiders report that McClinton just returned from his Iowa trip-he lists Kansas as the slight leader with Iowa next-and others in his top 5-Arizona St, Houston and SMU. In fact, the Insiders quotes McClinton as saying its down to Iowa and Kansas-"I'm going to decide between Iowa and Kansas"

Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionWould have loved to have had him, but unless he has a desire to stay home, can you blame him?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionNewhouse committed Sunday to Mizzou.
Also, the rumor is that McClinton is extremely close to his family, and that he's getting a push from home to stay nearby. Sure hope it pays off. If he commits elsewhere, look for Irving DT George Paongo to get an offer.
Re: McClinton and Newhouse/DMN questionFrom Saturday's DMN:
McClinton narrowed his choices to Kansas, Houston, Iowa and SMU. McClinton said Kansas is his top choice, but that could change after the weekend. McClinton was scheduled to visit Iowa. "The main thing is that I get a good education," said McClinton, who plans to major in business management. "I want to make sure it's a good school first. Then, I'll look to see if it's a good program, if they have study programs for athletes. Can they help me get to the NFL? If not, will I be able to get a job?" .... McClinton, No. 32 on SportsDay's list, said a coach's sincerity and honesty is important to him. "I can tell when they really want me or if they just want me to fill a roster spot," McClinton said. "You've got to be careful sometimes." .... McClinton said he might make a decision right after the new year, and Reever said he thinks he will commit in mid- to late-January. ------------------------------------------------ Now if he really means all this, I'd say SMU still has a shot. Our business school is better than the others on that list, and it's close enough to home that his family could get to games easily.
