Chris Spears visited CU back at the end of October and had a great time. While the Buffs have not offered yet, Coach Watson called Chris yesterday to tell him that after seeing his senior highlight film he has moved way up their list. Chris also just received his first offer yesterday after receiving first team all-district honors.

High School: Mansfield Summit
"I received an offer from Southeast Missouri today," said Spears. "I still don't really have a favorite because I am not trying to undermine any schools."
Chris says that his dream school is Notre Dame but the Irish are not recruiting him. He will take a trip to SE Missouri on January 23rd. Other schools trying to schedule visits include Tennessee State, Minnesota, and Southern Methodist. Colorado is also showing interest.
"I actually just spoke with Coach Watson today and he was telling me they they really liked my senior film and that moved me up their list."
He says all schools like him at cornerback.

This kid is fast and big for a CB, and it sounds like he can play, too. Does anyone know if we're planning to offer him?
"What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

That's excellent size and speed -- if he's a decent cover guy, and not just an athletic non-player, I would think he should be getting some offers.
Or could he add some pounds and move to safety?

What's with this pipeline for Dallas-area kids that SMU should be recruiting winding up in Minnesota? Weren't there a couple of good recruits a not too long ago that got away & went up there? What's more, if Notre Dame is his dream school, then I think we can do small, religious, private...now if only we could modify the quality of the product a bit.

You must mean Jack Brewer, who was actually on the team and his cousin Tellis Redmon, who was set to sign with SMU but went with his cousin to Minnesota when he decided to transfer.

DE Karon Riley also started at SMU, before transferring to Minnesota en route to getting drafted by the Chicago Bears.
And last year, SMU was chasing WR John Scroggins, who ended up signing with the Gophers.

This epitomizes where recruiting should be shored up...if it hasn't been already. I can understand losing a guy to A&M, UT, OU, or even TCU...heck even UNT...but Minne freaking sota? Hopefully these kind of things won't happen as often in the near future...

we lose 48 out of the Top 50 in the Metroplex every year-been that way for well 15 years. Until we develop a more competitive program it will remain that way.

...which is exactly why when those 2 of 50 are signed & wind up on the hilltop, all stops should be pulled out to ensure they stay there. A lot could be learned from Mark Cuban & his early days with the Mavs..he went above & beyond what players (i.e. free agents etc.) would want with locker room perks, comfort, service etc..it's the only way they'd stay (or come) when the Mavs were so shoddy.
