For what it's worth - JUCO linemen

Postby DallasDiehard » Mon Jan 05, 2004 12:03 am

Since we've clearly taken over Tyler Junior College as our own private farm system (a little latitude is needed here), here's a peek at some guys -- specifically linemen -- who were freshmen at Tyler JC this year, and might be headed to D-I schools after next season. I have no idea if any of them have interest in us, or if we have interest in them. I don't know which ones have injury issues, academic issues are just can't play. Just some names and sizes to consider.

OL Josh Elmore (6-3, 270) -- Carrolton, Texas
OL Jon Miller (6-4, 290) -- Euless, Texas
DL Michael McDonald (6-3, 240) -- Gatesville, Texas
DL Adrian Haywood (6-3, 270) -- Mesquite, Texas
OL Michael Sustaita (6-4, 290) -- Temple, Texas
OL Justin Reed (6-7, 300) -- Briedgeport, Texas
OL Jimmy Fox (6-4, 300) -- Mineral Wells, Texas
DT Luke Lamipeti (6-4, 325) -- Euless, Texas
OL Grant Dickey (6-4, 290) -- Tyler, Texas
OL Shannon Boatman (6-6, 315) -- Beaumont, Texas
DE Joseph Castle (6-2, 220) -- Sillsbee, Texas
DE Marcus Woods (6-3, 220) -- Jasper, Texas

So are these guys dumb as sticks or what?

Two off that list would help BIG TIME.

I know Boatman was very highly thought-of in HS, but if I remember correctly, was barely recruited because everyone knew he was headed JUCO. Not sure how that translates to intelligence -- maybe school just wasn't a priority before. If he's gotten his grades together now .... who knows? Eckert and this Merrill kid have qualified out of Tyler, so there's no reason some of these 300-pounders can't also qualify.
