Massey Is Seriously Delusional

Rivals reports that Massey has TCU at the Top of his list after a visit this weekend. Still no mention of SMU. Massey is quoted about his visit to the purplish puke colored Horned Lizards as stating "I really enjoyed it. They've got a family over there. It was a lot of fun. I really like the school and the football program". He has eliminated scheduled visits to Arkansas and A&M and will have a decision after visiting Houston on Jan 23. Poor, deluded child!

I really am shocked by how this kid's recruiting has developed. One of the top receivers in the southwest cancels visits to Arkansas(they wanted him to play D) and A&M, and focuses on TCU and UH? First of all, what does that say about how much A&M has fallen? Second, I completely understood Masset not looking at us because he was being recruited by some of the "big boys", but not even listing us in competition with TCU and UH? Considering big bro is here, he must really not like us. Playing in the Big XII or SEC is one thing, but if you're only looking at C-USA schools and we're not one of them? Damn.

I still want to believe that Richuel wouldn't let his younger brother make that mistake. If he goes to Houston .... well, that would be a shame. But given the rivalry between SMU and TCU, I would like to think Richuel would be able to have enough influence to eliminate THAT mistake.

looking at schools like Tulsa and TCU-very similar to SMU- makes you wonder if he qualified at SMU? I don't know

Good sources say he has BAD grade and test problems. I think most people are backing off of him. He wants to come here with his brother.

note he says that he won't visit Arkansas, A&M, Kansas and several other schools he was high on-all those schools are in conferences which severely restrict partial qualifiers. Tulsa and TCU have been known to at least wait on those types of kids until later in the recruiting year. I'm seeing unusually high numbers of top prospects suddenly deciding not to go on long scheduled visits in recent weeks. Many times this is just a cover for a school backing off because of academic issues.

If he has grade and test score problems and still wants to come play with his brother lets just hold a ship for him, and try to get another recruit to grey shirt. If he can't get the grades and scores send him to JC and give the ship to the grey shirt.

Funny that TCU's still interested then. concerned with academics and all that they are. there are a few posts at the C-USA forums that say one of the reasons TCU is going to go to the MWC is that the MWC doesn't take partial qualifiers and C-USA does. Ridiculous.

This grades issue with Massey is BS and you guys better watch how you talk about potential recruits. No wonder the guy will not consider SMU. He is a good kid and grades are not a problem.
Talk to Richuel.
Also, what program has backed away from this kid???????

this is one damn strange situation. He obviously doesnt have to go to the same school as his brother, but it is highly unusual to not even give your brothers school serious consideraton and at least a courtesy listing in your top 5. We could all understand wanting to play at ND or the SEC or something, but Houston? If Donald is bright like HFvictory suggests, an education from SMU is worth just a bit more than UH and his brother is here. Thats not a flame to UH, just true. As for him going to TCU, that would be a slap in the face, but maybe a fierce sibling rivarly is the extra something SMU needs to break TCU's streak on the field.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought he was dumb (other than thinking anyone that chooses to go to TCU should have their heads' examined. I was just responding to other comments. I am sure grades are not an issue and I'd love to have him on the old Hilltop.
Massey needs to be thinking of his mother. You can't ask your mother to travel that much. I work with a woman who had two kids that played FB for Texas Tech and one another for OU (now with the Chargers, BTW). Travel to both Lubbuck and Norman was tough for her. Kids need to go to the same school. See all the kids play at the same time.
Massey think of your poor mother!!! Get your tail to SMU!!!

HFvictory,
I wouldn't take anything that is said on this forum as negative feedback on DJ. Everybody, and I mean everybody, wants him at SMU. If they didn't, they wouldn't be holding a scholarship back just for him, which I know they are.
I think some people are just trying to figure out why he hasn't committed to us. We don't really know, and we're just trying to figure it out. If he's looking at Houston and TCU, which are notorious for taking academic risks, then an academic issue is a logical conclusion. Not to say that's the reason at all, but it's a logical conclusion.
Although Houston and TCU are enjoying success in football right now, our recent recruiting classes are rated higher than either of those two schools. That means the kids that DJ is actually going to be playing with at SMU are better than either U of H or TCU. Furthermore, the education he receives here (not to mention the contacts) will be a huge benefit to him for the rest of his life. Look at players like Kevin Garrett, who although playing in the NFL graduated with multiple degrees and was working on Master's level coursework. Fact is, we have one of the highest athlete graduation rates in the nation. TCU is a fairly marginal academically, and U of H's academics are pretty sad even for a public school.
Sorry to rant, but DJ will get much more by coming to SMU. We want him on the Hilltop!

Yeah, he's so delusional to be considering TCU. 10 wins and Top 25 finishes 3 of the past 4 years, six straight bowl seasons.
While I can definitely see him wanting to play with his brother at SMU, I can also understand wanting the chance to play against his brother, which he would get to at both TCU and UH.

Frog, we aren't doubting that TCU is a very attractive place to play football. That's why we don't have a post like this for everyone that is interested in TCU. Just suprised that we're not being considered in this particular case.

TCU Football 10-win seasons:
1932 1935 2000 2003
1933 1938 2002
By my calculations, TCU is due for another 10-win year in 2006, and then the next one will be in 2072? :w00t:
