"PRE-FINAL " TALLY INFO??

Postby cheesepony » Mon Feb 02, 2004 8:01 am

Can anyone give us a "final" run down on the signings before tomorrow and/or any last minute work going on?

Unless I'm forgetting someone, here's what we've got so far:

JUCOs:
WR Bobby Chase
QB Tony Eckert
QB Jerad Romo

High school players:
CB Cortley Blackmon
TE Vincent Chase
DE Kyle Griffin
CB/KR David Haynes
RB Jessie Henderson
DB Jonathan Lindley
OL Sean Lobo
WR Devin Lowery
RB DeMyron Martin
S Wilton McCray
RB Andrew McKinney

Transfers going on scholarship:
CB Charles Akinyemi
RB Foy Munlin
DE Dominic Pryor

That's not a huge class in terms of numbers, but there's some real talented guys there. How this class really ranks will be determined in a couple of years, but I'm excited to see this bunch hit the field.

the real question isn't "how many?", but "who will have an immediate impact?"

Obviously the JUCOs and the transfers (depending on how long they have to sit out) have a chance at making an impact.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Without having seen a single one of the guys coming in, this is all guesswork. However, with that said, here's my guesses:

The holdovers (2003 walk-ons) have to contribute. My guess is that Foy Munlin will have every chance to be the starting tailback, and I hear that Akinyemi is projected to start at one CB spot. And while he might not be as polished as those two, DE Dominic Pryor might have the most potential to become a real star.

Among the JUCOs: Who knows about the QB situation? Until they get out there and start with the new OC's offense, they're all freshmen. No way of guessing that one. But I bet Bobby Chase and Devin Lowery (an honorary JUCO?) both work their way into the WR rotation.

Among the freshmen: Vincent Chase probably has the best chance to start as a freshman, if only because Hrncir and Hodges are gone and Ryan Kennedy might move inside to OL. That leaves Derek Swofford as Chase's competition.

Hopefully last year's redshirts will progress enough that most of this year's class can redshirt, too. I expect the biggest impact from the rest of the class will be on special teams, where the infusion of speed can really change the whole look of a team (see Blake Warren against Rice last year!)

OK, so those are my guesses.
