Beyond that .... how many seniors are there on the 2004 roster? I heard the other night that we might have a limited number of scholarships again next year, although probably more than this year.

We gave out 16 Fresh/3 JUCO and the 3 transfers...

I think we will have fewer next year.

Akenyemi has two years remaining, so he is not on that list.

Keep in mind- we didn't use our max number this year. By my count, we had 22 available with all the transfers. So I think next year we will take a full 25, especially if we have a decent season on the field.

And of that list, I think a couple might be non-scholarship guys. So using 16 or 17 as a starting point, you also have to take into account normal attrition (someone transfers, leaves to pursue a career in a rock band, run for political office, become a shepherd .... whatever) and maybe we're looking at 20 or so next year?

I count 16 available for next year before any additons or deletions. 83 presently on scholarship leaves two short of max plus 14 graduating seniors. 2+14=16.

How do y'all feel about the recruits SMU signed? I can tell you that we are pleased with our haul up in Greenville, NC.

Looking forward to road trippin to Dallas when y'all are a part of C-USA!

Pirate...most visiting teams are happy to make to trip to Dallas. Why? It usually means the visiting second and third teams get to play. As you know, we have not won much in the last fifteen years. Many on this board are in denial regarding the state of SMU athletics. We have an athletic model that puts us at a distinct disadvantage with our competition. We may not be in C-USA long because the administration is unwilling to commit to Division 1-A athletics.

Actually, Pirate, most of us have far better insight into SMU athletics than does JR. SMu is very pleased with its' recruiting class....gaining tremendous speed and athleticism.
As to the near future, as our young team matures and we win some games next fall, our recruiting will continue to improve as well. Welcome to "Big D" ....Home of the SMU Mustangs!!

Stampede, who has been known to cheer the STangs is right on this one.

Johnny Rock, I hope you get some on Valentine's Day, you have been really depressed. Go out, make little JR happy this weekend.

Pirate - I would say we are happy, especially with our 0-12 record last season. You can probably rank it as upper division mid-major. One pub put it as 4th in the WAC. Tack that on to last year's haul and the Ws should start appearing.

You are really going to enjoy visiting SMU. The campus and coeds are beautiful. Dallas is fun.

SMU's home games are played in Ford Stadium.
Pre-game/post-game tailgating is centered around The Boulevard.

SMU fans are excited about CUSA and the prospects for long-term rivalries. Older SMU fans fondly remember our high-profile years in the former Southwest Conference.

Most SMU fans realize that CUSA will be SMU's best home since the SWC.

Although SMU traditionally is extremely successful in Olympic Sports (Sears Cup), our expectations for Football and Men's Basketball have been higher than our results since the mid/late-1980's. Football recruiting is strengthening and the infusion of fast, young talent will raise SMU's competitiveness. The Dallas metropolitan area (and the State of Texas) is one of America's best sources of high school football and basketball talent.

Footbal is king in Texas. Once SMU football turns the corner we'll be competing for the conference championship.

SMU is going to be a tremendous asset to CUSA!
