Just for information -- Emfinger just posted his 2005 list and Chris Hall is rated as a 4!

Is that on a 4 out of 5 scale?
If so, that's an impressive way to start the next recruiting class!

No I think Emfinger goes up to about 6 or 7 eventually but right now the highest rating given is a 5. Its good he's getting recognition but there are litterally 50-75 players on even Emfinger's Top National Database that never even get scholarships. I think the task is just too overwhelming for his company because he is often either too late to pick-up on top late develpoing prospects or too lazy to modify his ratings to reflect recruits whose prospects for Division 1A have dimmed. Emfinger is probably the biggest example of a recruiting analyst who thinks his own recruiting analysis of a prospect is better than what is actually reflected in the recruiting wars. He's another source of information but not a particularly good one. I think for the second consecutive year he's rated La Tech's recruiting class about 40-50 spaces higher than any other-he has been a paid analyst for their Insiders site I might add.

Chris may follow in his brother's footsteps and not get a lot of hype because of his early commitment to SMU...but who cares? I'm thrilled to have this Irving connection and hope Chris can talk some of his metroplex buddies into staying home and playing at SMU (maybe BigBoy'05?).

All the hype and accolades are great for the guy who isn't sure what he wants and feels the need to visit a bunch of schools to make a decision, but I give these guys credit for seeing enough in SMU to satisfy themselves that this WILL BE a great place to go to school and play college football.

Let's start with that Irving HS running back (I can't remember his name) I keep reading about. Or is he one of those kids who tears it up in HS but isn't big enough or fast enough to project as a strong college player?

Yeah who really cares. The fact is that Vincent Chase and Chris Hall lined up side by side and Irving ran 3/4 of their plays right behind them. The result-an unheralded Sophmore running back ran for almost 3,000 yards in his first varsity season. I'm pretty confident that they played a large part in that success.

With no disrespect to Vincent Chase and Chris Hall,m who I assume are as good as advertised .... I don't care if this guy runs behind the old Hogs line in Washington -- 3,000 yards is amazing. He could be 3 feet tall and run a 9.5 in the 40, but production like that at a high level of competition is impossible to ignore.

How big did Chris get this year?

Last I read, he was 6'5" and 285 and runs a 5.2 -- not bad for a guy that size. Hopefully he's working out hard, to make sure that's a solid 285.

And hopefully he's already begun talking up SMU to some of the other top players in the area. The best sell we can have is for players to tell each other why they choose SMU.

Is Chris doing any other sports in the spring (a thrower on the track team maybe?) Or is he already working out for football?
