Have we done this specifically before? I think we are really going to go after linemen next year...

Mustang Offensive Lineman Camp (June 13 - 16):This specialized camp is open to all football players grades 9-12. SMU’s New Offensive Line Coach Ronnie Vinklarek, former NFL Offensive Line Coach for the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans, will direct this camp. Top Texas High School Offensive Line Coaches will assist Coach Vinklarek in providing each camper with specialized instruction. This camp is designed to improve the fundamentals in both pass and run blocking. Campers will be filmed and receive coaching tips in nightly film sessions. Each camper receives a T-shirt and a pair of shorts. Registration for the Mustang Offensive Lineman Camp begins at 4:00 p.m. on June 13 and concludes with an awards ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on June 16.

Everything I've read indicates that next year's class will be heavy (so to speak) on linemen, meaning this linemen's camp will be of ultimate importance as the coaches reload on the offensive and defensive line.
Go get 'em, coaches.

I hope that this is an annual event at SMU. I like how Bennett and staff are hiring local coaches to help and providing teaching for local players.

Now lets sign at least 40% linemen EVERY YEAR.

40%? Isn't that a little high? I like the way you think, though. I hate to suggest doing anything the way TCU has, but it's a little-known fact that the "evil purple people" have won a few games in recent years. And those wins started to pile up shortly after a shift in recruiting over there, where they started stockpiling big (huge!) linemen -- many of whom had never been heard of before -- and they started to run over people, rather than trying to out-scheme opponents. It was painful to watch, but it worked.

The way I look at recruiting....

Bring in 40 % linemen say 8 a year. Some may never see gameday at Ford but you have enough size and depth to compete. **** get this*** You also have TOUGH competition at practice.

With 35 linemen on the team you grind up people and have a good team.

With a good team you land one of those " Lightning in a bottle type guys and your in the top 20.

It is TRUE Linemen are like the American Express Card. You don't go anywhere without it.

Go watch practice and look who is watching the full speed drills ( The extras or redshirts ) The extras need to be linemen.

I think USC had 16 ships to give away this year... 8 went to linemen.

Bus screams logic. You want 1 Dickerson type with a backup in the backfield but you need 5 with up to 5 backups for rotation in front of them. You also need to stockpile linemen so you can redshirt them and get some meat and age on them. That is not as important in a skill position. Obviously you always try to sign the best athletes regardless of position, but both offense and defense will always revolve around the line. Even the best running backs or the best defensive backs can not succeed without good upfront play.

This is the key thread of the board. I just wanted to bringit back up.

New stadium
Budget cuts
Losing Track
Copeland is right.. Football and Bball HAVE to WIN and PAY OUT.

To do that we need big men.

Preach on BUS. Big uglies are what we need. The bigger and uglier the better. I want guys who would make Louie Kelcher look like a pretty boy.

Now, now, East. While that comment gave me one of my best laughs of the day, if the boys can play as well as Louie did, let's not wish those looks on anyone. Sorry, big guy, if you read this board and see this.
