Per his twitter, 4* QB Kyle Kearns from California is visiting SMU. Would be awesome to get a commit from him- we were his first (and still only) offer to date, but he is a legitimate talent.

If legit, why no other offers?

because all others coaches know how tenacious JJ is in his recruiting.

I believe it was Stallion who mentioned in another thread that for whatever reason the West Coast schools are slower to give out offers than those in other parts of the country. Also, UCLA and USC already have 5-star QBs committed for this cycle. Other big-name schools like Michigan and Tennessee have shown interest in Kearns, but are likely waiting on decisions from other higher rated prospects at QB before offering.
I'd loosely compare him to Tyler Bray: similar skill set from CA, not a lot of offers out of college (Bray's other two besides TN were Fresno and SDSU) despite being ranked #141 nationally by Rivals, but I'd say he was a pretty big time talent- although Bray had some maturity issues that held him back

If Kearns committed to us, I believe he'd be the highest ranked prospect on Rivals to commit to us since Rivals began ranking players

Wasn't Devon Moreland ranked really high? I remember him having offers from USC and several other PAC schools.

I stand corrected- Moreland was #231, Kearns is #233 nationally. Of course, Moreland never played a down here though

Gabe Marks (committed to us for about 5 months in 2011) was ranked #87.

I stand corrected x2.
Let me rephrase: If Kearns commits and signs, he would be the second highest ranked prospect to sign with us since Rivals began ranking players, and if he ever sees the field, would be the highest rated to ever do so.

Has to be more of a reason that there are no offers other than lazy west coast recruiters. I am not saying he is not a great prospect but something is fishy.

Good. Hope they keep on this and not just roll over if a P5 school sends him an email.

OK, to all the QB coaches on the board, what is good/bad about his leg staying up after delivering the pass? Does that make the throw stronger? Or does it leave the planted knee open to injury if he takes a late hit? I really don't know. It looks like he has good movement and strength. It just looks like he's throwing a Thai roundhouse kick. Maybe to deter the pass rushers

its time for those offers to start rolling in if Coaches consider him a Top 250. QBs are the first off the board . I think when I made that statement about West Coast recruiting it was late February. The offers should start rolling in certainly by the time the schools have their spring Junior Days. Top kids that go to cams expect at offer at or shortly thereafter. In Texas, there have been several high profile 2015 recruiting shootouts starting as early as last Oct-Nov. I bet we are getting close to 45-50% commitments from Top 100 in Texas for 2015 (actually 43%)

mrydel- I think a lot of big programs are waiting to see what other, higher-rated QB prospects do first. Also, with more and more offenses moving to spread sets and seeking dual-threat QBs, his skill set may not be as attractive to many programs, but he's still got talent- if you don't believe me, take the Rivals analysts word for it.
Not sure why ya'll are skeptical about a Top 250 prospect being on campus visiting. I realize there's a lot of hate out there for June Jones but don't be blinded by it. By my count, only 5 of the Top 250 from 2014 committed to non-P5 schools.
