Would have to think SMU is the front runner of those schools

Don't know anything about Desmon, but would love to have some tough West Texas players on our roster.

No kidding, I think it is way overdue to pick up some talent out that way. For one, West Texas is the land from which such SMU greats as Putt Choate and Roy Dunn matriculated from. We could use a few more of those!

Only visits were Texas State and SMU. Just recently visited SMU with his family and decides to announce his commitment less than a week later. Sure seems like it will be SMU, even though both people making predictions on his crystal ball say Texas State.

Mama and Grandma loved SMU-and this kid is very loyal to both his Mom and Grandma. I doubt he wants to go too far away from home. Its going to be SMU and I very rarely make predictions on 18 year olds. Desmon would be SMU's highest rated recruit according to 247.com although I think David Moore is likely to rise once he shows what he can do on the field

As for West Texas-there are only about 10-15 decent prospects and the best generally go to Texas Tech.

Another DB in the mix-Michael Clark just decommitted from Kansas-and SMU appears to be his top alternative. He transferred into Cedar Hill from Sachse. Recently visited SMU with teammate Eric Sutton

I'm very blessed for the opportunity, but After talking with my family I have decided to Decommit from Kansas .

I would guess those two would finish up at DB for this class?

Love to see the high schools we are getting these guys...

After only picking up what, 1 or 2 DBs in the 2015, looks like the D backfield was a large priority for 16.

Rock (S), Duke (S), C Davis (CB), Sutton (CB), then with these 2 guys (Smith and Clark) both looking hard at us, if they both commit are we good for this class at DB? 6 is a lot, thats a quarter of the entire class. Have to think we are wrapping up on our DB spots, and that is why these guys are all committing earlier to lock in a spot bc they want to be here.

For what it is worth, West Texas is the home of the original Friday Night Lights. There are more prospects in the metropolitan areas simply because they are heavily populated. No reason why the best recruits out in West Texas can't consider SMU. From here on out, I would not automatically concede anything to Tech.

SMU has 5 DB positions we need to fill now. We created a new DB position with the Star and didn't sign many last year. Have no problem using 6 maybe even 7 DBs out of a class of 27. That would be 10 over a 2 year period to fill 5 spots or 1 for each position every year. No problem

I like the idea of going heavy at offensive skill spots one year, and defensive skills spots the next. It makes for a lot of competition and also allows you to cover if someone switches sides of the ball.
