Who is considered to be the better of the two? I know people are very high on moore but hicks did have Michigan, tech and florida offers.

Any thoughts?

I think David Moore is the better long term fit for the offense

I see, thanks. After this signing period the depth chart at qb will look better than it has in years

Gotta get one or two every year. That's the game, and they all know it.

Why did Moore get downgraded to 2 stars on rivals?

I know Ben Hicks struggled in spring and fall practice but this was a kid that was highly sought after. Offers from Tech, Indiana, Illinois, Houston (and a few late offers from Michigan and Florida). He isn't without talent. I'm still optimistic he can get himself into the conversation to start next year.

Moore played on a team which reportedly (based on comment from opposing Coach) lost 18-19 starters and played a brutal-I think its 6A schedule-top Division. Think they finished 4-6. Athleticism and mechanics look great. Nobody seems to have any stats on him though. They apparently don't throw the ball much though-he had good stats in the 2-3 games I found stats on but it was like 15-20 passes a game. I'm not worried

Moore had over 20 offers before his senior season. That tells me more than the "stats".

I was always in the "Davis is our starter this year" camp, but honestly, if you think our first string line is bad, the second string line is... No QB looks good behind it.

He and Colbert were pretty much even coming out of Spring. It wasn't that Hicks struggled so much as Davis did well and Colbert was decent. With those two being even, Chad wanted to redshirt the QB instead of burning it for a handful of minutes. No reason to give up on Hicks.

IMHO the staff has a really interesting decision to make when evaluating in the spring. There is still a big difference in talent between the 1's and 2's on offense and defense, so trying to evaluate the backup QBs playing with the 2nd string offense against the first string D is really, really difficult. Do you try to do that, or do split everyone's time with the first string offense and lose continuity? I would bet a decision will be made to split the reps between two of the QBs at the beginning of camp and it will play out from there...

Davis played well in bits and pieces but just fell apart at the end. Considering how many starts he's had and his experience, I don't think we're going to get much more out of him.

Obviously the QB competition will decide, but I'd like to see someone else start next year, whether it be Hicks or Colbert. I don't think I can stomach watching Davis run around in circles behind the line of scrimmage and getting sacked for 10-15 yard losses anymore.

Unfortunately, I kind of agree. It was really disappointing to see him hold the ball longer and longer as the season went on, when he should have been getting more comfortable with the offense and making quicker decisions.

With the RBs and WRs on campus next fall, the QB selected could pretty much be decided on the one who will have the least negative plays. I'd also take note that this year, the zone read was really only a staple in the Tulane game. Not sure if that was QB depth or just not a major part of the offense. We will find out next year, but Hicks is certainly more in play if it is not a major part of the offense.
