Start out coaching the opponents, and we'll start winning. Simples.
Then we get the recruits.

The 2 coming in next year (assuming we are able to hold onto them) look pretty good and Hicks will have a year's experience so if he hangs around he can at least provide some depth

I feel we could maybe use one more QB. We need to recruit the trenches on both side. Mainly offensive lineman

You have that in reverse. You get the talent and then coach them. The best coach in the world can't close the talent gap we have with Big 12 teams.

A lot more recruiting needs to be done on Offensive and Defensive lines.
The offensive lines have continually wilted under pressure.

Injuries matter: Morris lost two LT's and his LG on the OL + his best RB. At QB, Morris has the option of using: A struggling freshman backup QB, a 4th string walk-on, or converting Freeman/Rock to QB 1/4 into the season.
The idea tha Morris forgot how to coach offense is insane.

Of course injuries matter. Recruiting 4 slot receivers for every OL or DL is nail in the coffin.
I'm sure it's gross oversimplification, but it seems to me that if you have 25 ships to give per year and you need 11 on each side of the ball, you ought to have 5 OLs and 4 DLs in EVERY class. That way when your Sr offensive tackle gets banged up, you have two experienced Jrs who can step in, etc., etc.

That is being done. But you have to redshirt the OL if you can. The receivers, if capable need not redshirt. I heard a color analyst say it very well this past week ( I think it may have been Jesse Palmer). The closer to the ball you are, the more important it is to redshirt.

Had to be done to switch from Run N Shoot to a run oriented spread and switch from a 3-4 to a 4-2-5. Had the wrong parts and that's why a lot of those guys are no longer part of the program

I wasn't aware a lot of guys got run off or left. Yes, the game is won in the trenches obvioulsy and we have to keep signing lots of quality linemen.

Kind of like Jim says we need to sign quality players. Because you can sign players and they might give you depth but not quality depth.

Same argument for 20 plus years. Need better players. While SMU improves our competition gets better too. SMU is always 2 steps behind our competition. Not a good sign for the program when we are double digit underdogs every week to unranked conference opponents.

We won two games last year, have a RS Freshman starting at QB (an no backups), and a banged up OL - what did you expect?
