One thing I've noticed about our recruiting for 2005

From looking at the daily rivals info, we are recruiting a lot of the top players in texas. Most will go to the big schools no doubt, but I have seen a trend that I like. We seem to be the first to offer a bunch of these guys. Sure, a UT or A&M offer may come in a month or two, but at least we give them some time to think about us.

I imagine when a kid gets that first offer, he gets excited and reality sets in that he is going to actually play college football. Being the first, they tell people about it, and if just a handful of them take some extra interest in SMU for the month or so that we're the only offer, it has to help.

Oh well, just rambling.

Actually, I don't think that's "just rambling" at all. There's something to be said for being the first in the door, so to speak. Every now and then you read about a stud recruit going to a particular school and wonder "how the hell did they get that guy?" Sometimes it's because they've been recruiting him since just after he was out of diapers. Isn't Tennessee QB C.J. Leak the guy who committed to Wake Forest when he was a freshman in high school? He later moved on to Tennessee, of course, but didn't he actually go to Wake for a year?
All I'm saying is .... can't hurt to try.
