LB Paul Thornton of Katy 6-3,210 4.5 of Katy reports strong interest in SMU. His coach stated Thornton made consistent improvement throughout the year in Katy's 15-1 state championship season and eventually was awarded the MVP in the Class 5A State Championship game. His coach visited SMU during its coaching clinic and left film with SMU coaches who are reportedly very impressed. No offers yet but he has gotten mail from across the country although the coach only mentioned SMU as schools he is interested in. He recorded 116 tackles and 8 sacks during Katy's 16 game season.

Sounds impressive, that's for sure. Add him in with Cory Muse, Avery Cleveland, Zach Hall, Reggie Carrington, Don Ieremia-Stansbury, Johnnie Fitzgerald, Wilton McCray (if he stays at LB), Cole Horton, etc., and it sounds like a very deep, athletic group of linebackers. He has good height, which suggests he could get bigger, right?

How sweet is that -- listing ONLY SMU!

Anyone know how many coaches were at the clinic over the weekend?

That's the kind of kid who can change a defense, if you get a bunch of them. Tall, fast LBs can go one of two ways: they might keep growing (in height and weight) and become lightning-quick DEs, or they might simply fill out and remain super-fast LBs. Either way, you can't have too many of them.
