lead the Dallas Mustangs to the championship of the Sabes Invitational in Minneapolis last week. The tournament featured some of the top AAU teams in the country and several of the top players in the 2005 class. Flowers was named tournament MVP and Eaton was all-tournament first-team. Let's keep these two guys as Mustangs!

here's the story:

I read something in Texas Roundball.com that said Flowers was transferring back to Amarillo Palo Duro next season-is that correct?

I haven’t heard anything about that but Flowers does have a history of bouncing around from school to school and he has family in Dallas and Amarillo. Was this info from a poster or a story from the TRB staff? As you probably know, many of the posters on TRB are high school kids trying to start rumors or pump up their own rep. I can’t imagine Flowers would want to leave the preseason #1 team in 4A and the best district in Texas to go back to Amarillo?? I would be surprised if that’s true, but who knows.

...actually it was written by the staff as of September of last year-guess that move was aborted. Apparently he was on the same team as 4 star guard Austin Johnson whose received some recruiting notoreity and is a prominent AAU player for Team Texas as well. Man you could build a nationally prominent program just from the about 1/3 of the top players from Team Texas and the Dallas Mustangs alone.

If only you could tell how they'd pan out. Basketball must miss on more "can't miss" prospects than any sport. I mean, look at all the HS guys jumping to the NBA. My favorite was a kid who came out listed at 6-8, 245. They said he could shoot from the perimeter like Glen Rice and slash to the hoop like Scottie Pippen.

His name is Korleone Young - ever heard of him? Drafted in the first round a few years ago (by Detroit, I think), and flamed out faster than a Zippo that's run out of fuel.

Anyone have a scouting report on Flowers?

actually Corso BB recruiting is less of a guessing game than FB recruiting. That is one reason you have kids jumping straight to the NBA. In FB there is a much higher physical commitment to the game required by the individual recruit. If a FB recruit is not willing to hit the weight room and bulk up and physically mature he likely won't succeed. Although it might depend upon your definition of "making it" very few of SMU's TOP recruits over the years have been busts. More recently, Jerryl Sasser, Willie Davis, Damon Hancock, Quinton Ross, and Bryan Hopkins have been our most highly recruited players. None were what you would call "busts" like you sometimes see in FB recruiting. In fact all were all-conference contenders by their sophmore or junior years. They might not have reached the success we had hoped but each were "hits" in the recruiting sense and were well worth the scholarship offered.

You make good points, Stallion. I stand corrected.

5/9-Rivals is reporting that Eaton has no interest in UT. We are the only Texas school in the running with OSU and GT being our competition. Let's hope that Tubbs and Bennett can work something out to get Eaton to SMU.

This Eaton kid seems to be getting a lot of pub. Is there a way to determine how landing him might affect local recruiting?

Eaton claims, that he will only play hoops.

I'll believe that when I see it. He's supposed to be a pretty special football player, too, and if Coach Bennett and Coach Tubbs (or the coaches at another school, but I'm just going to assume he's headed to SMU!) can figure out a way to let him do both, I bet he tries to do double duty.
