Looks like Chris Hall's stock continues to rise even after his commitment to SMU. He has gone from No. 54 to the No. 34 prospect in the new May Texas Top 100 from Insiders. Others off the top of my head(there maybe others) who have expressed interest at one time in SMU include; 12. Jamaal Charles, 15 Keenan Clayton, 32 Marcus Shavers(Ark commit), 39 Byron Eaton, 43. Russell Ball, 55. Trey Bryant, 70 Donald Horton.

Is Russell Ball related to Jerry Ball?

I've read many stories about Russell Ball but never heard that mentioned. They are from the same neck of the woods but Russell is a little 4.3 scatball from LaMarque-you may have seen him in the state championship-very impressive athlete that could play at several positions in SMU's new multipe offense. But old codgers like me may remember that Jerry Ball was a 6-0. 235 RB yes RB at Galveston Ball who lead his team to a state championship. Great athletic talent not just a big lug.

What impressed me most during our recent heydays (dickerson et al) was sitting in the stadium and looking at the defense in huddle and thinking how small the noseguard was. That was Jerry Ball. Then I read his dimensions, and realized he might have been relatively short, but definitely not small. It just showed how big the rest of the defense was during those days. Of course, I also remember that prior to being injured, I was the 2nd largest person on our defense at 197 lbs. Boy times have changed. Bus is right, we need big men.

 Stallion, you're slipping up. You're about right with respect to Jerry Ball's size, but you missed the rest. First, he was a true Fullback - not RB. And he played on Beaumont Westbrook's 5-A State Championship team the first year of their existance (after the merger between Beaumont Hebert and Beaumont French). He never played for Galveston Ball.

Considering how players' rankings seem to inexplicably change after they commit to schools of differing stature, this is extremely impressive. Imagine how highly he'd be ranked if he'd given his commitment to Bob Stoops or Nick Saban.

How aggressively were we pursuing him? Was he at the top of our wish list?
