With some time to think... If Coach Bennett does not sign 10 to 12 BIG men, he will not be here in two years.
Given that... SMU will not be competitive and I do not like what the future holds for my University.
I LOVE SMU. My family ALL graduated from SMU ( Back to 1917) which has such a great education to offer. The facilities are AWESOME! Coach Bennet is a great motivator, But WE need to see some BIG, BAD, MEAN guys sign for SMU.
You look at the POST college careers of most players.... Beer Trucks.
At SMU you could be selling IBM or intelectual properties.
If I were a Young Big Guy it would be... SMU.

quite frankly even in our best recruiting years we have rarely signed prized highly recruited offensive and defensive linemen. Heck in many years we have had trouble even signing true defensive tackles. If you ain't getting the top prospects you have to dig a little deeper into the barrell and your not likely to get early commitments.

Stallion,
You are echoing what I said in a thread 6 months ago! We need to do a better job of getting big guys, especially for the DEFENSIVE LINE!

might help recruiting to start winning a few games. need to show potential future Mustangs that SMU can win and compete with top 25 programs if you want to compete for the big hosses.

So... Desmond Jones was a BIG TIME recruit. We can turn the corner and win with guys like he and Bonds. I do need to see Bonds play better given no injuries this year!!
I don't think we took the time or chances on BIG MEN during the Caven years. We had too many little quick guys standing around at practice. 80% of the idle guys at practice should be BIG guys. They need the time to red-shirt.
WE CAN GET THE BIG MEN like we signed two years ago - Even a larger number this time around.
Go Coaches and SMU

When Jones committed, I thought we had another undersized DT on our hands, because at the time he committed, he was listed at 260. I don't know what he ate between the time he committed and the time he suited up in August, but whatever it was, it worked, and the same diet/workout routine should be applied to other DTs who need to add a few pounds (Randy Denman, Brent Karrington, etc.) Not that they can't play now, but they'd be better if they can get closer to 300.
