There's a story on Rivals today about the Rowlett OG. Headline reads: "Ponies close to picking up commitment?"

But I don't have a subscription. Does the article really say he's close? How good is he thought to be?

His other schools of interest reportedly are Arkansas, Baylor, Iowa, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and TCU, although it doesn't list which schools have and haven't offered him.

It says he is thinking about committing soon. Has offers from us and is expecting one soon from TCU. Camped at SMU, TCU, and Texas.

Would be a nice start to recruiting.

Bring that big guy in. I know it is very frusterating not getting to have all the inside scoop but I think this year class is going to be good.

Go Coaches and Go SMU

For what its worth, I got some additional info about Josh Hickman according to his performance at the NIKE College Station camp in early May. This is a select group of prospects who are invited to attend. Hickman was 16th out of 25 offensive lineman in the 40 yard dash(5.34), 5th out of 24 in the Shuttle, 28th out of 33 in the Bench Press and 33 out of 34 in the Vertical Leap. Since they measure at the NIKE camp the 6-2, 278 measurement should be accurate. BTW they did mention that the conditions were not optimal because of poor weather conditions.

Based on the bench press and vertical jump, he certainly needs more explosiveness. But the intriguing number there is that he was among the best at the Nike camp in the shuttle. The former OL coach (I forget his name) at Nebraska said the shuttle is far more important than the 40, because OLs never have to run that far, but are required to be able to get somewhere to make a block, then shift directions to pick up a pass rusher or find another would-be tackler to take out. Based on his performance in the shuttle, it sounds like this kid has good feet and the potential for serious improvement. Maybe Coach Faucette could take this guy and mold him into a serious player.
