SMU loses pledge from Texas OL
Brian Gates
Rivals100.com
Irving, Texas offensive lineman Chris Hall had committed to SMU during his sophomore year, but he has recently decided it was time to change that pledge.
“I recently de-committed from SMU,†6-foot-5, 285-pound Hall said. “It’s a great place over there. They’re doing a lot of great things. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about the school, the program or anything. I just didn’t feel like that is the place for me.â€
Hall has several other schools interested in him already at this point.
“I am looking at Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Florida and Iowa,†he said. “Those are my top four right now. Those four have offered already.
“I have some that haven’t offered that I would like to like, Kansas State, Texas and Arkansas. I think Kansas State probably will offer soon, but I’m not sure about Texas and Arkansas.â€
Hall has some familiarity with the three that haven’t offered.
“I’ve been down to Texas and looked at their place. It’s all nice. The coaches were nice and the facilities were first class. Arkansas is a school I have followed and watched and gotten a lot of mail from. Kansas State’s offensive line coach, Bob Stanley, was my high school offensive line coach early on. He’s now up there and I’ve talked with him. I think now that I have de-committed, I will probably get an offer.â€
Hall isn’t locking himself into a time frame for a decision.
“I’m not going to set a date for a decision. I’m going to play it by ear and go from there. I want to visit the schools I am interested in and make an informed decision. I’m going to be there for four or five years, so I want to make sure it’s the right place for me.â€

Looking forward to the onslaught of chicken-little musings on this one.

Umm... I'd say he is gone.
We need to win some games and get the momentum going in the right direction.

Not the news I wanted to see. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road, unfortunately its a pretty big bump in the road. Bennett certainly needs to ramp things up recruiting wise in the next few weeks to get some momentum going.

Well the kid committed when he was 15 or 16 years old and now two years later he is getting bombarded by some big time schools...what ya think he's gonna do. There may be some sibling rivalry involved with all of this too. You are right he is gone...but I'll bet you even money the chase isn't over until the ink is dry.

Not so fast PK. It is one thing to take unofficial and official visits after a commitment. However, the kid actually de-commited. It is troubling that SMU lost a great player. It is even more troubling that SMU has no other early commitments at this point. SMU announced it has made 'changes' to allow it to compete. It has not made one difference. SMU better wake up and realize that it must change its ways and adopt an athletic model to allow itself to play on an 'even' playing field or it will never be successful and risk being forced out of Division 1-A. SMU could be a lot better quickly if it would allow more Juco transfers, and equally important, Division 1-A transfers. Why does TCU get more than we do? Its simple they take more hours from other schools. Get with the program SMU before its too late!! I looked at our schedule next year and who in the hell are we going to beat? Maybe San Jose St.? They usually have 7 or 8 Juco starters and transfers that are decent. Nevada? same. UTEP. same. Tulsa. same. With that being said, Bennett may have seen his days on the Hilltop.

I have a working hypothesis that Johnny Rock is Stallion's alter ego.

Pretty sad news. Glad you can wish him well since he burned SMU.

I can't view him as an OSU player. To me, he's now just Zach's brother, and because of that, I hope he enjoys his time in college. I just wish he was spending it at SMU.
Good luck, Chris.
