Soak it all inIt's hard to imagine where we are at this moment, versus the past umpteen years with apathetic fans and hardly anything to cheer about. The Hawaii Bowl was definitely a signpost for football, but tomorrow night could launch something really special for hoops on the Hilltop for years to come. And yep, my expectations are far exceeded for the year, so this is all gravy.
Re: Soak it all inGreat post.
It's all gravy at this point. Never enjoyed any sports season more ever. Including the Pony Express years -- and that's really saying something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I’m coming home

Re: Soak it all inAgree, great post. And as good as the 1982 football season felt, the decades in the wilderness have a way of making this more special.
Re: Soak it all inThe saddest part (if there is one) is that the journey that started for this team back in November comes to an end tomorrow night. Nick and Shawn are two great Mustangs.
Re: Soak it all in
This'll be the longest off-season ever. On the upside, there may actually be some coverage of the off-season this year. Used to be that SMU basketball dropped completely off the map until the next season started.
Re: Soak it all in
I plan to enjoy it. Somehow expectations tend to destroy sports for me. This team surprised us all. Anything short of an AAC reg season title and a sweet 16 run will be considered a failure next year. Can't handle the negativity. Never been prouder of any SMU team.
Re: Soak it all inThose are some mighty high expectations. I expect to make the Dance. That's it.

Re: Soak it all inI like gravy.
Re: Soak it all inI'm gonna be slightly philosophical here... not winning all the time makes winning - when it happens - all that much sweeter. I've been a fan since I was a kid in the late sixties, and back then SMU (I'm talking mostly about football but BB too) was good enough to challenge any team on any given day, so it kept our hopes in the ballgame. Not winning wasn't fun, but winning every now and then was really great!
But the past 2-3 decades have been dismal. So yes, the Hawaii Bowl win was fantastic. But this somehow seems even better. I posted yesterday about the spirit of our fans at the Garden on Tuesday, and I'll say it again - it was AMAZING! We are SO HUNGRY for this that even if our fan base was "geezer" leaning (as someone wrote)... we were LOUD. There is something about the power of chanting those three letters.... S-M-U, over and over again, that really can dominate an arena. So YES I am soaking it all in, a graduate from 1980 who has lived in NYC for almost 30 years but never stopped being a MUSTANG!
Re: Soak it all inNext year the only thing we should be hoping for is an NCAA bid regardless of if we win the conference or not. Let's just enjoy the ride next year one game at a time and let everything take care of itself. That is how you enjoy the regular season.

NIT is about building for the future and using tourney as spring board. Exactly what's happening with SMU and Minnesota. Good experience! #HammerDown
