On Campus: Oct. 21 Weekend Visitors

With just 13 members of the Scout.com Top 100 still on the board, the weekend visitors list is nearing the end. As you can see, teams are beginning to focus in on the season as the emphasis begins to shift from recruiting wins to actual game victories.

Many thought Darrell Arthur was about to end his recruitment last Monday but it didn’t happen. Now he’s into taking officials to SMU and Baylor. He’s one of the highest rated recruits on campus this weekend.
Speaking of highly rated recruits, the Stanford Cardinal has a pair of its campus. Coach Trent Johnson can sit back and have a good time with the Lopez Twins since they’ve already pledged their allegiance. He and the staff and spend the required time getting the job done with Landry Fields.

After a long break from official visits, D.J. Augustin is back on campus this weekend as he checks out the Tigers in Baton Rouge.

All it's going to take is for coach Tubbs to convince one of two of the top Dallas players to "stay home" every year and SMU will be right up there with Memphis as a national power...and Moody will be rocking once again. Coach Tubbs was hired with the expectation he could pull it off. Time will tell, but he's had more interest this year from guys who wouldn't have given us the time of day in past years. Who will be the guy to get it all started? Gotta keep believeing it can and will happen

Hey we have a chance, don't give up. I mean we are in his final 5, this bball program is only going up and if he came here we would automatically become a NCAA Tourney contender and with time we could win a few games in the tourney. GO PONIES!!!

guys, we better start working on a renovation or replacement to Moody, fast. Even a good recruiter needs tools to work with.

No kidding. Even a just a stated date to break ground on a Moody renovation would help. I can't believe with all the contruction going on around campus that money to remodel our arena is that much of an issue. Admittedly, though, I'm not very knowledgeable about such things.

I've covered this a few times - we have 2.2M of the 8M needed so far. This needs to happen immediately.

Makes you wonder if the Mustang Clubbers themselves could round up the funds required. Before you say there's only 1500 Mustang Clubbers, understand that this kind of thing is undertaken all the time. For example, the local Methodist Church to which I belong wants to finish the new physical plant & build the sanctuary. 45 days after endeavoring to raise capital for the project, 50 individuals/families had pledged an aggregate total of over 2M. How about the same thing for our basketball "sanctuary."

Haven't the 1500 been asked to do enough? Most of us already feel that we are throwing good money after bad when you look at the pitiful product we put on the court and field!!

Using the church analogy, our church wanted to build a $1 Million addition and sold church bonds. People could use IRA money to invest in these bonds (money that was invested somewhere else) and within 6 months the capital was raised to build the addition. If there were 1500 Mustang club members each with an average $100,000 in an IRA. That's $15 Million right there of available capital without hitting up any Hunts. It would have to be paid back, but over 30 years it would be a drop in the bucket and could be refinanced down the road. After two years our church refinanced the money was disbursed to us on September 12, 2001 (when trading was suspended on the market). One week before the biggest two day decline in the stock market in US history. Had we been invested in the market instead of those bonds, we all would have had portfolio losses on that money. Instead, we all got to buy in at the bottom of the market.

That sounds feasible. It just seems to me the fundraising project for Moody isn't publicized and if it was with models and such, maybe that would raise some more interest about the project?? seems all too hush hush to me...who knows...apparently right now it's just mostly former players
