Don't sleep on Tulsa

Postby JasonB » Sun Mar 01, 2015 2:32 am

Just to put some numbers behind what Stallion is saying when he talks about Tulsa being good... When you look at the final 4 from last year, there are certain strengths that stand out for each of the teams.

All of them where very good in scoring defense, FT attempts, and FT made.

Most of them were pretty good at 3pt fg, fg% defense, and TO margin.

Tulsa has elite numbers when it comes to scoring defense, FG % defense, and FT attempts. They are decent in FT made even though their percentage is awful. They are also good in TO margin.

The one thing holding them back is their 3 pt FG percentage. I suspect they will struggle against SMU in the final because of our size inside, and they would have lost to Memphis if Nichols doesn't get hurt. Cincy will give them problems as well.

But they are a good team, and I think a legit tourney team. If they come up against someone who has size inside or gets hot from the perimeter, they are going to be ousted. All about the matchup for them.

We are a bad matchup for them. They essentially have to hope to shoot way better than normal from the outside and us turn the ball over for them to win. But it doesn't make them a bad team.

Tulsa is a good team but they struggle against anyone who can score inside (shaq and Nichols were killing them all through that game). Most decent teams has strong interior players which is why Tulsa hasn't really beaten anyone good and lost to some terrible teams. We are a nightmare matchup for Tulsa.
