Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideHi, I'm a UConn alumni, live near Hartford, and have some free time so I thought I'd make a site to help anyone unfamiliar with the Hartford area who are going for the AAC tournament. I love going to new cities but digging through message boards and yelp can be a pain.
So far i plan to cover The Tournament, The St. Paddy’s Day Parade, Bars/Restaurants/Drink Specials and Entertainment/Museums/Places to See. Let me know what you guys think or what you would want to see more of. http://connecticutrising.weebly.com
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideThanks.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideThis is really great thank you. I am planning to be there and I will definitely use this!
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideGlad you guys like it. I just updated with info on the Pub Crawls and more on the parade. Museums, concerts, and places of interest should be up next.
Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideMax's is a great Hartford steakhouse. Before I went to SMU I went to Trinity in Hartford for a year. Not as bad of a town as everyone makes it out to be but TrinCol is in the straight up hood
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors Guide
Hot Tomato's - while I haven't been in years, it has pretty good food. We should have picked a place closer to the arena like Agave. City Steam (Uconn's spot) is the best on the list. Dish, next door to City Steam, has great food and a decent bar. It would have been a better choice than Hot Tomato's. For people with cars, J Gilbert's in Glastonbury is my favorite steakhouse. Plus, you need to try New Haven style "Apizza" while you are in CT. Frank Pepe's new place in West Hartford isn't far. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideYou gotta know where to get your kegs & eggs so I've updated with food/drink specials and of course the final bracket.
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors Guide
BTW - You did a great job with it. The Casinos: while they aren't "that close," the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos are pretty nice facilities and roughly an hour drive away. If I was visiting for the tournament (and didn't have my children), I would probably stay at the MGM at the Mohegan Sun and drive into Hartford for the games. While the Hartford-area is a good place to live, it is not a tourist mecca for a reason. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideThanks!
My last big update just went live, entertainment, museums, and places to see. I've listed everything from the Mark Twain House to the Casinos to Pepe's Pizza. I would definitely give it a look if you want to know where to go in the Hartford area.
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideThank you for taking care of us!
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuidePlease note that the establishment listed as the SMU "spot" was just randomly assigned to us. We won't be there. All SMU events will be at The Tavern.
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors Guide
Great call by SMU. That's a really nice sports bar with a ton of beer on tap and good food. The AAC named it the ECU bar but I can tell you now there will be zero ECU fans there.
Re: Hartford AAC Tourney Blog and Visitors GuideNo "visitors locker room" for the Mustangs!
Party at The Wopper!
