WHY DO HS COACHES NOT TELL PARENTS INFO ???

TODAY, WE SCRIMMAGED AND ALL WE COULD GET OUT OF THE ARROGANT ______ WAS WHENEVER, BLALBLA, BLA BLA BLA??? .. ITS 65 MILES AWAY, TIME?

NOW THIS WAS COMPLETELY ACROSS TOWN ON A FRI.
NIGHT TRAFFIC, WHAT KIND OF POWER TRIP IS THIS??

ALL THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT IS THE AAU, SUMMER
COACHES - THEY COMMUNICATE 1000X BETTER, YES
THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS, AND YES THEY CALL FOR
PRACTICES AND SOMETIMES YOU GET THERE AND THERE IS A CONFLICT AFTER 12 BOYS FROM 150 MILE
RADIUS HAVE MADE THEIR PARENTS BRING THEM OR
ELSE.

BUT WHEN ITS TIME TO PLAY WE ARE TOLD DAY. TIME,
LOCATION "EARLY", SO WHEN THEIR ARE CHANGES
AT LEAST THE TEAM IS THERE- EVEN THE ALWAYS LATE PLAYERS.

HS COACHES PLEASE COMMUNICATE, YOU GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE IN THE ACADEMIC
WORLD (HIDING), YOU COULD NOT KEEP A JOB AND
COMMUNICATE THAT WAY IN REAL WORLD...

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE AVERAGE AGE OF A HS
COACH IS??? COACHES -DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL LATE? DID YOU GET TO YOUR WEDDING LATE? DID YOU NOT TELL YOUR NEW BRIDE WHICH HOTEL? DID YOU NOT TELL YOUR MOTHER-IN-LAW WHOS HOUSE YOU WERE GOING TO YOUR FIRST CHRISTMAS? WHAT'S UP???YES, I AM MADD (NO SP.)!!!

We can relate. Getting info for the magazine from some of the high school coaches was like pulling teeth. Many sent their info and more. Some though took about 5 emails, phone calls, and letters. Only 2 flat out refused to send the info.
It is the same with AAU coaches though, so let's not blame all high school coaches. Some AAU coaches wait until the last minute or don't send their rosters or entry fees. Some never did.
Surely though, most coaches, either high school or AAU, will tell the kids where and what time. You must have the exception. What school is it if you don't mind? Or, email us if you are afraid the coach would retaliate against your son.

trb, no name, only because it will not help it is part of a bigger problem - city, state, and nationwide...

coaching pay 1500 for sub varsity, do the math, less than 2 dollars for after all activites over 1.5 hours after school days, for one season. alot of resposibilites and
more than there share of parent, fans, and other XXX.

last night they got to the scrimmage 1.5 hours late, got home after 9pm for a 3pm afternoon scrimmage, oh well

players moving, recruiting not stopped by districts, and many other changes in the coaching world has "hurt" the game - many coaches looking for other positions to
improve their stress and quality of family life...

there are problems everywhere- last year in janauary
on a cold and rainy night a team traveled over 200+
miles, upon returning home the players, coaches, and
others files out of the bus and went home, right? NO,
A PLAYER IN THE LAST ROW, 90% DEAF WAS LEFT,
WHERE HE SPENT THE NIGHT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY
WHEN THE NEW DRIVER STARTED TO WARMUP UP THE BUS AT 430AM. HIS PARENTS CALLED, WENT TO HOME,
NO ONE COULD HELP, NO ONE TRIED -NOT MY PROBLEM

I can't speak for the coach you describe who didn't tell you where his scrimmage was.

However, I am sure that your dealings with this one guy certainly doesn't speak for all high school basketball coaches.

I am speaking for myself, but I probably overcommunicate if anything.

As for your comment about hiding out in academia. It's clear you don't respect your son's high school coach, but you treating him this way in your child's eyes is only gonna make it more likely (not less likely) that your child becomes an excuse making "victim" of society (in fact he probably already is).

Remeber, it's easy to keep everybody happy when you can dole out playing time according to whose dad paid the most (we all know not all kids pay the same amount as everybody else. We also know the shoe companies corrupt the hell out of the kids and the game.

Besides, what are the criteria for being an AAU coach (you played when you were a kid, and therefore are an expert). High school coaches are at least college grads, and they do have a chain of command when it comes to accountability (school board, superintendent, principal, AD).

Who are these summer league coaches accountable to?

If you are that upset about not knowing what time you were going and where, why don't you complain to his chain of command (I can only hear your answer - "They are all the same and aren't gonna hold him accountable" yada yada yada).

So, if AAU coaches are superior to AAU coaches simply because one man didn't tell you where the scrimmage was, sounds like you have it in for the man (maybe your son isn't very good and you can't bully your way into playing) or high school basketball.

And when (not if, but when) your kid doens't make it, I BET YOU WILL HAVE A MILLION EXCUSES.

None of them will be holding you or your son responsible.

Bet if your son played a lot you would love your son's high school coach.

You're just teaching him to be a wimp

question - are you six foot tall or shorter?

your comments are more ignorant and uninformed
than my first post made out of complete friday traffic
frustration (I admitted it was a mistake, Anger?).

I do have to compliment you on your clever way of trying to put me down, with frequent mention of my
son- ironically I do respect my son's coach, my son
does play, and the other 3, 4 things you said just so
happen to not be true (Hummm?).

but coach if it make you feel better or taller than you just keep up the good job, oh did I mention taller, your doing at your fine 1A school.

good luck this season and with your 3rd wife?
Oh, you can use me anytime you want to "vent" your long pinned up frustrations... suggestion- don't stop
coaching for then you would have to go home and then
you would have to start working on your 4th???

Adults? When I find adults talking like this to one another, I don't have to wonder why kids can be so nasty to each other in the schools.

There is no doubt that AAU coaches tend to be butt kissers for these kids and their parents. Why? The kids can just up and leave. High School coaches can be tougher and impose a little more discipline (although the student can, leave particularly to one of the parochial schools that recruit). HS coaches tend to not suffer fools or parents very well. If a player works hard, comes prepared to practices, does whatever the coach tells him to do and follows team rules, that player will be much better off in the long run. I sat on the end of the bench in HS, because I was just good enough to make the team because of defense. I didn't see much playing time, but made life hell for my teammates at practice. Who wrote my recommendation letters to colleges? You guessed it, my HS coach.
