My dear God

Left work at 5 and just now finished watching the game. I have no words. I'm absolutely 100% heartbroken. This hurts.

Wish the rest of us could have warned you and suggested going to see 50 Shades of Grey instead...

Now I wish I would've just looked at the score.

On top of that during the half-time of the SFA/utah game one of the sportscasters, I believe it was Clark Kellogg said it was absolutely the right call, saying 'you can't mess with ball on its way down. Good Lord that us just wrong. By definition, the ball has to be on the way down AND over the Cylinder for it to be goaltend.

Many were devasted by the call.

I don't agree with Kellogg but Ponypride posted the rule in another thread and it seems the officials has a bit of leeway to call goaltending.

But yet PonyPride thinks it was a bad call. Go figure. Rightfully so. The rule is not open to interpretation.

Rule has several required elements. This incident did not meet the merits and should not have been called. Goaltending is usually a very obvious call. I have seen several balls taken off the front of the rim as rebounds today that meet those requirements much more stringently...namely being on the rim. As for all who say this didn't decide the game...you have to realize the position this play had and ignore the prior game. SMU was down double digits earlier and not playing well, then went on a clutch run. UCLA did not belong in this field, but that doesn't mean they aren't a good team. You knew they were going to come with a run of their own, and we would have to weather it. Came down to that play, where even a rebound to UCLA doesn't look good to set up anything other than a 2 inside, and the official decides it meets his requirements for goaltending. Had he not called that, UCLA is still down by 2 and has to get the ball in under the basket where our defense has been good. Instead, the ref takes the players out of the equation and makes the call. At that point, that call completely changed the game. Just as that 35 foot game winning shot earlier was completely last ditch, it still determined the game. Here, the officials call did. Yes, we had another 6 seconds to get back down court, but we were confused and that did us in. Should have called a time out, reset, and gotten off a play. But none the less, without that call, wouldn't have been there.
