Mass Catharsis

Postby SMUer » Fri Mar 20, 2015 8:42 am

Could the mustang club organize an event were behind closed doors we hang up pinadas and effigies of various NCAA officials and historical foes and alumni just go to town with plastic bats? I'm a ten year grad and my sports-soul is already bruised and battered; I can't even imagine what DP-survivors must feel.

You ever wonder "what's the point?" We seem more cursed than anyone. Usually we won't try....when we do we find creative ways to fail. Every year. Over and over. What are we benefiting from this?

It does seem like somebody should have enough spiritual contacts to come up with a way to reverse Peruna's Law at some point.

It's just who we are.

Everybody has to be somebody.

I guess we are just " that guy."

Ouch.

Well, we did win 54 basketball games over the past two years and won both conference "titles" this year. The vast majority of those days were very fun. Last night was a massive sledgehammer to the groin, but we did get a lot of positive publicity - namely people apoplectic about that call being made - and a lot more attention. And we killed the 22 year dry spell, and there's a lot of support -financial and otherwise - behind the program moving forward so this isn't like Shumate's house of cards on a pile of shifting sand back in '93.

I'm still despondent; it was just an awful, awful, awful ending. And I know we've cornered the market on bad luck, more often than not of our own making.

At least we aren't LSU hoops; if anyone should be wondering "why bother," it's them after that nuclear dumpster fire collapse last night.

And I propose the following pinatas: (1) David Berst; (2) A. Kenneth Pye; (3) Ron Wellman; (4) The head of NCAA officiating who gave that gawdawful TV explanation last night; (5) Bill Clements;

Not true but it takes time to learn how to win, We took a big step last year and a bigger step this year. Next year we will have guys who have played in the NCAA before and won't come out so nervous and tight.

Remember this team won a conference championship and a conference tournament there are 2 more pieces of hardware in our trophy case and soon there will be something decorating moody. We are on our way, the NCAA tournament will become the norm and not the once in a lifetime experience it has been.

I sat at my desk for 2 hours after the game yesterday and I'm still not sure what I did during that time. I was in total shock and honestly didn't even want to drive home.

It sucked then and still does now.

I agree I am still in a lot of pain about that loss. It is so much worse because it was stolen by bad officiating and not that we just lost cause we played bad (we made mistakes but absent gross officiating we still win). I'm sure time will hear the wound like to does for all things but just like a death in the family I think I will carry some part of the grief for the rest of my life. absolutely ridiculous way to lose a game.

I haven't been hurting this bad over a sports loss since my Oilers blew the lead to the Bills. In a lot of ways the Oilers luck and the 'Stangs feels very similar. I need the Spring Game to hurry up and get here so I have some positive vibes again. With that said I can't wait for next years hoops season.

For those of us old enough to remember this, I felt this morning like I did after the 1980 Holiday Bowl where we lost to BYU on the last play of the game, 46-45. However, the difference being BYU came back and won the game and we did not get screwed by a "judgment call" from a referee in no position to make the call.

I'm still pissed but kind of starting to get over it . . . a little. What's pulling me through is thinking about football (I know, I know) and next year bball and all that ball handling, shooting, skill coming in (BTW, I think Memphis will be better but still coached by Pastner, UConn will be better (maybe), Tulsa returns everyone, UCF has the giant coming in, and don't know about Cincy and Temple - will be a tough conference).

I have more anxiety about MK, LB, and the NCAA. I hope we find out very, very soon on all 3.

I bawled my freaking eyes out when it happened. Dropped to my knees and just bawled. That hurt. As bad for me as BYU
