We protect the paint. We do not spread out to guard the 3 until the other team proves it can hit the three. If I make you shoot from 3 range all day 99% of the time, I win. Once in awhile, that strategy won't work, then I switch to man to man.

This. Most teams (even good 3pt shooting teams) can't win when all they get is the 3, if you are beating them on the glass, killing them inside with scoring, and keep turnovers low the other team might stay close but won't beat you.
