Ojeleye Named AAC Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Junior forward Semi Ojeleye was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Ojeleye averaged 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists as the Mustangs (2-0) won both games last week.

Ojeleye, a junior from Ottawa, Kanas, had career-highs of 26 points (8-15 FG, 3-6 3FG, 7-8 FT) and with 14 rebounds, in a 72-44 win over Gardner-Webb on Friday. He also had one assist and one block. Ojeleye followed the season-opening performance with 18 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 3FG, 7-9 FT), eight rebounds, an assist and a steal, in a 91-64 victory over Eastern Michigan Sunday. After two games, he is shooting 56.5 percent from the field (13-23), 50.0 percent from behind the three-point arc (4-8) and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line (14-17).

The Mustangs are back in action Thursday, when they take on Pittsburgh at Madison Square Garden in the semifinals of the 2K Classic. Tipoff from New York is slated for 7 p.m. ET/6 CT and can be seen on ESPN2. SMU will round off the 2K Classic Friday with either Michigan or Marquette. The game can be seen on ESPN2. Tip time is TBA.
