SoCal_Pony RequestPlease Post. Let us know you are alright. We haven't heard from you since the middle of November. Hope the news about Old Pony hasn't bummed you out too much.
Hey PK, I am fine. Thanks for asking.
A funny thing happened after the ECU debacle in front of 5k fans…I started following Trojan football. Attended some games and can tell you I had more fun at them than any SMU sporting event I have attended over the past 20 years. There were more fans at the USC campus / Coliseum for the UCLA game than SMU will have in over 2+ years of conference home games. And the excitement in the air reminded me of the old Pony Express days. I now have a much greater appreciation for Stallion and others like him who are alumni of other ‘real’ athletic schools in Texas, yet continue to follow SMU so passionately. Look at what Texas Tech has accomplished over the past 12 months versus what SMU has over the past 20 years, and yet Stallion remains a die-hard Pony fan….that is impressive. Not that I have given up on SMU, far from it. Attended the TCU BB game over the holidays. My observations were not positive. I believe a team full of Dez, Morris and Fall-type players will not win championships nor get us to post-season play, although anyone can see the potential in Bamba as a defensive force. Best news is the potential departure of Copeland. If his replacement is candid from the get-go about the obstacles SMU faces and his desire to change them; maybe we can turn this thing around. If he toes the Company line, expect more of the same. Outside of that, on a personal level I am doing fantastic. Hope you had a great holiday season, mine was terrific
....Stallion, you went to Texas Tech? If so, why are you a pony fan? Just curious
okayand SMU for your undergrad then.....that makes some sense, I was wondering why you'd be such a die-hard Ponyfan if you didnt even go here
My HS football coach played on that 82 SMU team. We always had that throwback pass on our kickoff avaliable if we needed the score. Man he loved every year getting to talk about that game.

I approach this topic as gingerly as possible. I know I am not a part of this conversation, but if you would not mind, what happened to Old Pony? I was/am afraid of asking, given his moniker; I guess I didn't want to hear any bad news. I recall a few years ago posting on a thread with him, and he seemed like a real nice fellow. Please tell me he is in good health and continues to follow the Ponies.... And SoCal, where do you live in Newport? We lived in Laguna Niguel before moving back to Texas. Did OC for 7 years. Went to Saddleback Church. Wife taught at St. Anne in LN. Funny, if you drive the tollroad much, Sage's first full-time development officer was the former CFO of SMU B-School, Mary Sarver. She married David Blake (former Dean of Cox) and moved out to OC while he was Dean at UCI's GSB. Just a little more in the way of a "SMU connection"...is a small world.[/quote]
Alas, I'm sorry to say, he is not and does not...SmooPower posted this in December..."After some investigation, I am afraid to report that OldPony has indeed passed on, back in September." Actually OC Mustang, despite his moniker, OldPony wasn't really all that old. From what I remember from some of his post he graduated in 68 or 69 which would have him in his late 50's. Also I believe he lived in Kansas. I found this in one of his old posts. "My apologies Plano. OP was there from 64-69 football season...."
That is terrific. Glad to hear from you...you had me worried there. Happy New Year.
PK...you should know as well as I do that just because OP is no longer with us on this world, that he does not continue to follow the Ponies...I have a feeling that OP's spirit was quite excited when we finished the season so strong.
