Observations from Rice Game

Postby MustangIcon » Tue Jan 24, 2006 4:09 pm

Sorry I am just getting around to posting this, but I could not have been happier with our offense in the first half of the Rice game. Did anyone notice all the open 3 point looks as a result of our concentrated effort to get the ball the ball down low? We probably hit 5 or 6 three's in the first half from great open looks due to the Rice Defense collapsing on the post players. Morris, Pearson, Rack and Fall might not be dominant offensive players on the block but they do demand enough attention to allow our offense more open looks. This was a great step in the right direction.

To start the second half we went away from getting the ball to our big guys and it seemed to me that our shot selection was not as good because of it. I do not have the stats to prove it but I bet our shooting was much worse the second half bc of this(I will look it up and post later). I think that lack of good open looks is a big reason our lead began to fade. Thankfully we recovered and played some great ball down the stretch to pull out a big win for the Ponies. I am excited about our two conference wins and with a hopefull road win over Pan American we will have a nice little streak going and hopefully hit our peak come CUSA tourney time.

I know everyone has already said it, but man is Bamba exciting to watch. He is someone that has finally energized our crowd at home and could even be a draw at the ticket office all on his own. It was great to feel just a tiny bit of what it was like to have Moody rockin' again (even if it was less than 4k fans). It makes me remember just how loud the place can get when we fill it.

Looks like our overall shooting percentage from the floor was about the same both halves although we took 13 fewer shots the second half:

51.8% first half
50% second half

But from the 3 point line we shot:

6-11 54% first half
1-6 16.7% second half

Gotta love that 1 make by Dez though, most exciting moment of the hoops season thus far( followed closely by Bamba's spin move and jam in the second half!)
