Two years ago, how many of us thought we'd read the article posted below by now; just replace "Texas A&M" or "A&M" with "SMU," "Aggies" with "Mustangs," and "Gillespie" with "Tubbs."
Gillispie hasn't made as big of an impact through recruiting. Yet. That should change next season with the blockbuster class he signed in November, highlighted by Seagoville's Derrick Roland and Donald Sloan and Grand Prairie's Bryan Davis.
"I think next year the roster will be close to being like we want," Gillispie said, "deep and athletic and more flexible."
Would Sloan have considered A&M two years ago? No way, he said. Not until last January, when he watched in shock as the Aggies beat No. 10 Texas.
Next season's team could have eight Dallas-area players, including five from the Dallas ISD. Sloan's recruiting trip to Oklahoma "didn't feel right," he said. "I didn't know anybody. At A&M, I saw people there I've been seeing since middle school."
