A "model" for basketball

Okay, while I can dream about SMU being like NW'ern in football, someone tell me how/why the model used by Oral Roberts for bball wouldn't work for SMU.

Old Arena? check
Small Fan base? check
Crappy conference? check
Private school in the south? check
High school arena in town nicer than that of the university? check
Small recruiting budget? check
HC used to coach at a successful D1 program in Oklahoma? check

...and ORU had 25 w's last year and is in the dance this year. And from the looks of things, their guys can make layups. I don't want to hear about their crappy conference makes them good; they played a tough schedule. One of their best players is from the Metroplex.

Tell me, how come we suck and they don't?

good question, I dont know the answer. they struggled badly for many years but i doubt whatever coach turned them around did it in his second year. Somebody had some patience and a vision you can be assured of that.

Oral Roberts has the charismatic movement behind them. Oral predicted that their basketball team would rival Duke in ten years, and that was twenty years ago.

But seriously, for basketball, one cannot blame CUSA. If we were any good (say top 3) in conference we would get tourney bids.

I'm sorry, but I just have to respond to this absurdity. ORU is going to the show for the first time in 22 years (1984) having squeaked past mighty Chicago State to win the the one bid Mid American conference tournament. I am really worn out with all of the "crappy conference" references about C-USA on this board. We currently have two top 25 teams, #5 Memphis and #24 UAB. We have two good teams Houston and UTEP that will be in the NIT. The next 8 are admitedly average to poor this year, but just ask UCF who went to the show last year as weak [deleted] conference champs how this conference compares to their old one.

good point, except for this. IF I didn't put the "crappy conference" remark in there, everyone except for those who say CUSA is good would spew the usual "what do you expect not being in a BCS conference"
