So you are agreeing that this was indeed an underachieving team?

This may be a horrible comparison, but North Carolina had to replace all but about 3 points per game from last years national championship and look at how they have done. You can say that they have replaced the departing studs with new incoming blue chippers, but so has everyone else in that conference.

I'm glad you said North Carolina was a bad analogy because its a horrible analogy. You are talking about the defending national champions in the best basketball conference in America in a beautiful new gym with a huge tradition. UNC can pretty much sign anyone it offers a scholarship to, much like UT can sign any football player it offers a scholarship to. Apples to Apples my friend. Gonzaga might be a better analogy. On the other end of the spectrum is St. Joe's. They were a one seed in the dance and are in middle rung of a weak A-10 conference this year. St. John's has fallen so low they didn't even qualify to play in the BE tournament which they hosted at MSG and that was a coach ending his first year there. We are not going to sign three McDonald's All-Americans, if we got one every four years that would be great.

I just thought it was something interesting to point out. I am just guessing a few people on here the last couple of days don't even go to games and then rant once they find out that SMU didn't go far in the tourney.

I am just as pissed off as anyone but I went to almost every game and from the 1st game or 2nd game, I really didn't expect much but it would have been nice for a surprise win in a couple of games.

4-10 is pretty bad - I think they fell short a bit. What did [deleted] me off was watching them miss layup after layup and turnover after turnover with not much changing throughout the year. As a team I think they digressed. If we had a full team all year I think it's possible they could have been 7-7 or 6-8. I think I was more upset last year.

I did use the term "horrible", not "bad". Anyway, you actually kind of missed the point. I am not comparing them to us, just comparing situations. Carolina is a big dog in a conference full of big dogs. Yes they are a powerhouse but so are many other teams in their conference. What I am saying is that all teams regardless of talent level play young these days. It is a reality that we all deal with, even the big boys. My example was to illustrate that youth can no longer really be an excuse because all teams (especially top programs) have to deal with this new reality

What are you guys talking about? The Dean Dome is a craphole it was built in 86. Why do you guys think we need a new stadium to have a winner? That isn't true at all...Does Duke have a nice, new stadium? No. They don't even have air conditioning. The Dean Dome isn't nice either. I am so sick of ya'll saying we need a new stadium to win. What is the point of a nice new stadium, if it is empty? Guess what, when Jerryl Sasser was at the top of his game here at SMU, more fans showed up. Back in the day when we won the SWC under John Shumate, fans came. If you win fans will come. THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE.
I miss Troy Matthews.
