SMU Not Among Randolph Top 5

SMU has been listed as one of many school of interest with the 5 star 6-11 Anthony Randolph kid from Woodrow Wilson who is one of the elite National prospects in 2007. I'm sure that all you Baylor conspiracy theory posters will love to see Baylor once again recruiting with the Top programs in America. The other 4 top schools are UT, Memphis, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

Where did Jeryl Sasser go to school when he was drafted in the first round?
It might be fun to badmouth SMU, but scouts will find a good player, no matter what school he attends .... including high schools and academies in Europe.

Certainly Orlando wishes that they had not tried the Sasser experiment as it clearly did not pan out for him or the team.

Doesn't matter whether the "experiment" worked. Sasser was a productive player at SMU (albeit one with an unorthodox jump shot, among other things), and the NBA found him. Quinton Ross was scouted by the NBA when he was here. There were scouts at our games this year, either to see Hopkins or to see an opposing player. The fact is, if you can play, the NBA will find you.

First, Quinton Ross didn't go to the NBA after he graduated from SMU, he went to Europe and played hard for a few years then went to the NBA.

Now to the main argument here...don't you think that a guy who is an NBA prospect will better groom himself for the NBA playing in a tough conference like the Big East or the ACC and being in the spotlight (every game on ESPN). Look at a guy like Nike Fazekas or Paul Millisap, both NBA prospects...They don't face the same competition or pressure that guys in big conferences face. Playing under the spotlight and against great competition not only shows scouts how good you are but it also helps prepare you to play in the NBA.

In Ross's defense, I think he only played in Europe for one year.

Regardless....he improved his stock dramatically with a good year in Europe.
