Hoop,

I would easily be willing to right off this season as a fluke. I am much more concerned about the caliber of player he recruited this year.

It is simply a repeat of something we have witnessed far to often. After a couple of years, recruiting falls off. Same thing is happening to PB. I think it is very difficult to turn that negative momentum around. PB won 5 games last year and it didn't seem to help as much as I had hoped.

Of course all this could change with one signature.

i'm not saying this season was a fluke at all. In fact, I am saying that we had obvious problems coming into this season. Most of those we all knew about last October and once hopkins went ineligible I think the consensus was that we *hoped* the team would gel and be dangerous at the end of the season. We had some decent moments in early January, then mealgate apparently hit, Morris got hurt, and we faded. Still got a decent win over Rice in the tournament, so the team obviously didnt quit, but it was what it was. A young team with deficiencies that need to be improved through recruiting.

another thing to look for-if Tubbs is found to be one of the 3 OU Assistant Coaches who violated NCAA rules on excessive contacts-excessively--how does that play into the controverssy or SMU's decision. In all likelihood he is one of the unidentified assistant coaches.

you consider it like anything else, but it only becomes a factor if someone wants it to be. Sampson obviously fostered an atmosphere of it at OU if three assistants were doing the same thing. Tubbs never had any such issues under Dement. If mealgate is minor or non-existent, the OU incident should be considered irrelevant.

Hoop,

I say it was a fluke in the context that we don't want too many of these type seasons...I see it as a hall pass.

What is your honest impression of our recent recruiting class. I don't think much of it

One final question...who impressed you more their freshman year..Patrick Simpson or Morris

i'm worried about the recruiting class but not ready to panic. We need some scorers. But Tubbs had to wait a little bit on Arthur. He is too big of a fish to give up on too early and we thought we had a legit chance. Still might for all I know. I do think we are past time waiting on Arthur, he is not listing us highly and we have got to get some scorers asap. Tubbs is in on that big time scorer from Mississippi which tells me he is looking for the right things. He is also in 'the mix' for talented transfers like Fleming like he was on Willingham. Dement never was at least at the end of his reign. I dont know what the future holds, but I do know Tubbs is turning over the right rocks and has a chance.

As for Morris and Simpson. I do think Simpson was a more polished and in shape player as a freshman. Both guys have good hands, although I think Morris has better hands and much stronger. The important thing is they both are 4's, ie power forwards, at SMU. Because of that I'd take Morris and his future all day long and twice on Sunday.

the latest Rivals report yesterday questioned that recent report that said Arthur is now considering 5 more schools. What we have here are at least 2 different Rivals sources with conflicting sources or info-we've seen these reports go back and forth so many times that you got to question all of them. One source is probably talking to his AAU Coach and the other to the Coach at SOC. The latest report cites the same 3 schools Kansas, SMU and Baylor and adds a fourth-Texas-and says he may make his decision soon.
