Orsini's first test...How is this going to work, are we going to have to wait till June 1 to even start looking or can Orsini call the shots now?? Anyone else think Orsini already has someone in mind????
He surely is more interested in being associated with hiring an exciting new coach than firing a mediocre coach with a lot of local ties. The timing is significant. Whether he already has a particular person in mind is more speculative. What is less speculative is that he has the kind of person in mind and the kind of results he expects to get in mind.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
the more urgent question is Will SMU abide by its traditional 30 Day Posting Rule in light of the fact signing date is Wednesday. Football Signing Period lasts for 1 month but I think Basketball Signing Date may be longer-maybe two months. Let me pose a scenario. SMU does not hire a Coach for at least a month leaving only scraps in recruiting-then Bamba and Morris transfer. SMU Basketball could be relegated to at least 4 years of mediocrity because the cupboard in the bottom 3 classes would be just about bare. Right now this is a very real scenario-and you ought to be very concerned about this even if Bamba and Morris stay.
I thought football's signing period was open-ended. Signing begins the first Wednesday in February, but can't a team sign a player (i.e. Adrian Haywood) at any point thereafter? Maybe there is some specific verbage to the signing period rules with which I'm not familiar.
thats not only possible, it will take a minor miracle for that not to happen. We are screwed. Like I said yesterday, I wanna laugh, but its not funny.
It all comes down to who SMU can hire. I think SMU is prepared to waive the 30 day rule b/c of the potentially negative impact it would have. At least I hope they feel that way. There's been a lot of speculation in the national media (ESPN) that SMU should hire Rob Evans. Well, maybe they should, but whomever it is, he better be darn good. This is the most important hire this program will make in the past 15 years.
What happened to Tubbs is unfortunate, but we have to move on and make sure that this next HC is a good one. I just have a feeling that SMU is going to go after an established guy who has a good resume temper the the negative publicity they're receiving over this.
