NBA Veteran George Lynch Speaks to Basketball Campers

George Lynch speaks to basketball campers

June 1, 2006

Nine-year NBA veteran George Lynch visited coach Matt Doherty's basketball camp at Moody Coliseum on Thursday afternoon. Lynch talked to the attendees for 20 minutes and answered several questions. He spoke of the hard work and dedication that is vital to the success of any athlete as well as his experiences through basketball; highlighted by winning an NCAA Championship at North Carolina in 1993 and making the NBA Finals with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001.

Lynch then instructed the campers on the proper form of a jump-shot and how to gain position when rebounding. He also showed the group drills that he has used to develop his skills.

Lynch has averaged 22.8 minutes, 6.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 774 games during his nine NBA seasons. He was selected in the first round (12th overall) by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1993 NBA draft and has played for four franchises: Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. He was All-Atlantic Coast Conference and All-Final Four Tournament team in 1993 when the North Carolina Tar Heels captured the NCAA Championship.
