UT or A&MWhy don't we play A&M or UT in basketball? It seems like either school would want to play in front of its alumni base. Is it money? What gives?
Simple - they don't want to play us
![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Both programs probably think they don't need to play us to pluck Dallas recruits.
I'm guessing Coach Doherty will have something to say about that in the very near future!
Count it: SMU will play UT or aTm in 007-08 or 08-09. They'll be asking us because we will help their RPI and the travel will be cheaper then going to play Gonzaga.
Texas played Gonzaga in Phoenix in the Hall of Fame Challenge. Barnes isn't going to play them in Spokan. And Texas isn't concerned about travel costs either...they have NO budget for basketball!!! They want as many home games as possible on their preseason schedule and when they do venture out it will normally be a tournament or a classic that has a National TV tie in. Texas is so strong that they don't need to make an appreance in Dallas for recruiting puposes. Billy Gillespie is close to having A&M in the same postion. A&M is a little more open to a home and home series but they are now in demand for the big non conference tournaments as well. There just isn't any compelling reason for those guys to come here and play and risk losing to SMU on their home court. Both would probably entertain a game at the AAC but that is not really attractive for SMU because they lose the home court advatage and Texas/A&M would bring the majority of the fans. It also wouldn't bring in that much revenue.
I would think we could have gotten A&M easily a few years ago and it's more likely than UT ever playing us. I would like to play Baylor on a regular basis the next few years. Tech got TCU this year, where did that series go?
