Scream or yell at the players all you want behind closed doors, but doing it in a game like that was uncalled for....just bench the guy....no need to scream in his face over and over and act like you're on the verge of getting physical with him....he could have just benched him and had him run suicides at practice....

Wow, sometimes we blow stuff way out of proportion...Roberts expected to play Sat.
Junior guard Derrick Roberts is expected to play Saturday at Centenary...Nothing further is expected to come of the incident.

'Pampering' would have meant to let him keep playing. 'Discipline' can take many forms. I assume you are a parent so I don't need to explain this to you. Am I pampering my child because I send him to his room instead of spanking him? No. Different form of discipline. I have no more to add to this conversation.
But according to you, you would not send him to his room (like Doherty did) you would let him sit next to you on the couch so he would not be embarassed. I do not recall Doherty "spanking" him. That is Coach Knight discipline which IS going to far.

To any hippie, tree hugging, pu**y complaining about Doherty's discipline - grow a pair! This is division 1 college athletics played by grown men. This is not the YMCA, church league team or women's sports. Could he have just benched Roberts? Sure. But he sent him to the locker room and thats his choice as coach. Roberts will be fine and the team will go forward just as it should.

Although the ill-advised three pointer was the reason the young man was benched. I believe his responses to the coach's grilling allowed him to be first in line for the showers! Most coaches do not take kindly to players disobeying their instructions. However, all coaches do not take kindly to players questioning their authority to issue instructions, especially when the player does so in a very disrespectful and inappropriate manner.
I believe it is "water under the bridge", the young man has learned from the experience, and both he and Matt are "on the same page" moving forward.
 Sorry for all the cliches.

I was at the game...I saw the entire thing up close...Roberts didn't say anything back to Coach Doherty...Roberts looked disgusted and unresponsive...That is probably why he got tossed...What ever...It is water under the bridge now...Just wanted to clarify what I saw...

I fully stand behind Doherty in what he did. I guarantee you he will get the best play out of Derrick Roberts thus far in the season against Centenary on Saturday, and as you guys know, the more points from Roberts the better chance this team has of winning.

I looked to me like Roberts said something just before he was excused.

Roberts and Pearson should both be getting at least 12-15pts a game.

For a moment there at the game Wednesday night, I thought we were watching the movie Hoosiers. Hey it hasn't exactly been pretty, but you have to be encouraged by Matt Doherty's determination to get these players playing his style of basketball. The quicker they all buy into his system, the better this team will become.
