TX Hoopsters in the NBA

Postby PonyTime » Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:20 am

Quick -

Name five Texas D1 players who have started consistantly (ie not Q Ross) for an NBA team over the last 20 years (this would not include Drexler, Hakeem, Hardaway etc).

We are talking 20 years, at least 12 D1 teams, almost every school has had at least one tourney team in that time (except Rice and UNT perhaps). Probably 120+ regular starters for D1 ballclubs . . .

I honestly can't think of 5. Perhaps I do not watch enough NBA - I know that TJ Ford, perhaps Lee Nailon, the tall white guy from TX a few years ago that went to the Cavs high in the draft . . .????? Help me out here . . .

Now name 5 HS players from TX who have been consistant starters in the NBA . . . this is easy . . . it's a frickin' NBA all star team.

So sad . . . let's hope Doh can keep some of these guys in state (and SMU will let them in the door)!

UT: Chris Mihm, TJ Ford, Lamarcus Aldridge, BJ Tyler, Maurice Evans, Royal Ivey
Baylor: David Wesley, Brian Skinner, Lawrence Roberts*, John Lucas Jr.*
Houston: Anthony Goldwire, Carl Herrera, Sam Mack, Otis Birdsong, Bo Outlaw, Damon Jones, Alton Ford
TCU: Kurt Thomas, Lee Nailon
Texas Tech: Darvin Ham, Tony Battie
Southwest Texas State: Jeff Foster
UTSA: Devin Brown
Blinn JC: Chris Andersen
Lamar: Adrian Caldwell
Rice: Ricky Pierce, Mike Wilks
SMU: Sasser, Koncak
St. Mary's: Robert Reid
Texas A&M: Antoine Wright
UTEP: Antonio Davis

That's excluding: Olajuwon, Drexler, Hardaway, Ross

HS: Rashard Lewis, Gerald Green, Ndubi Ebi, Kendrick Perkins, CJ Miles

That's excluding: Moses Malone, Shawn Kemp

Might want to look into NBA players that played HS ball in Texas and college ball out of state such as Emeka Okafor, John Lucas Jr., Lawrence Roberts, Jake Voskuhl, Larry Johnson, etc.

Quinton Ross DOES play consistently for the Clippers. What was it Coach Dunleavy said last year about how hard it would be to replace The Q?

Shaquille O'Neal played HS ball at Cole HS in San Antonio. Does he count as playing consistently?

The point the guy is making is that thee is unbelievable highschool talent in Texas and he is hoping Texas colleges (SMU in particular) can have a little more success in keeping these players in state.
