Hoop,
I understand, but we should be looking forward. The season was tough and the previous circumstance was difficult, but it is done and there is some light ahead. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

by the way, i think the free throw thing comes down to player confidence in themselves overall, confidence in their particular free throw ability, and internal ability to perform under pressure at this level. Mechanics are only part of it. Coaches can only do so much to influence these guys putting the ball in the basket.
the body is still warm on another disappointing season on the court. Give me a little grieving time and leeway before I have to look forward.
We as the SMU faithful still deserve to know what the Tubbs NCAA violations were, which per Copeland to the DMN were more than burgers and Cheer. Especially since he was allegedly fired for those violations. When is that NCAA report coming out again?
Burgers and cheer, part 4586.
Y'all are looking back two seasons now. What about this season? Recordwise we're a little worse, but with construction and a new scoreboard and a good recruiting class, Doherty has put some things in place. A simple question for JT and Hoop are we better off now in basketball than we were two years ago under Tubbs? I am only talking about where the program is at. maybe we should start a differt thread on that quesion. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

I think Doherty got as much out of this team as any coach could have gotten. We have some servicable players, but no Division 1 calibre superstars. Defensively they were as good as last year and points per game were about the same as last year which is pretty amazing considering that for much of the conference schedule Fall was out. Ike stepped up his game in a big way. But offensively is where the talent deficit was most evident. You can't win without putting the ball in the hoop. By the end of the season we had seven scholarship players on the bench. Seven. One extra guard -one extra big man. Its tough to play without a little rest in the game. Its tough when guys get into foul trouble. You need at least 8-9 players who can play to be safe. We didn't have that luxury this year. Chalk this one up to a learning and growing experience. It looks like a decent class coming in next year. We could have a much better team next year. Recruiting is Doherty's strength. If he gets the horses, we'll do much better.
Typical lawyer answer.....saying something but not answering the question ![]() I hate to say it but we would be worse off, we would have had the same if not worse record and while we would have had some of the recruits we have, wouldn't have all of them. And I doubt Ike would have evolved into the player he did, sure didn't show any progress the first year with tubbs. For sure wouldn't have raised the money for the basketball facility. Crum said it himself, they donated the money because the UT A.D. said with a great coach like Doherty there is no reason we couldn't have a top 25 basketball team. You horn haters have at least got to say thanks for that. Glad to hear Tubbs is happy and doing well, but we are better off with Doh.
I think that about sums it up.....As far as W's and L's I really don't think there would have been much of a difference between Tubbs and Doherty but the fact cannot be denied that Doherty brought excitement and money back to the Hilltop for basketball. The new facilities and upgrades are a reality because Doherty is here as well as the coaches show.
I will be a bit more conservative from the recruiting aspect and say that I cannot say for sure that Tubbs would not have been able to recruit an equal or better class because he did not get the chance to....but I will say that I am happy with the recruits we got and the direction and energy of the program.
