So now there's a story in today's DMN about how A&M's top recruit -- a 7-footer named DeAndre Jordan who rivals calls the No. 8 player in the nation -- is thinking about asking for his release from his national letter-of-intent. He says he's going to talk to the new coach at Aggie High, but said if he did get released, he would think about Kentucky. Check out Gillespie's response:

"You couldn't do that and you wouldn't do that. I'm all for Texas A&M. I hope they continue to build upon the program that WE got started. (Got to love how he not-so-subtly pats himself on the back, huh?) [Taking those players] wouldn't be the right thing to do.

Since when did THAT matter to Slick Billy???

a good friend of mine said he visited/re-visited some recruits about playing for Kentucky while he was still being paid by A & M, the last couple days or so before he officially took the Nantucket job

If so, he should have been fired by A&M. Too bad he beat the school to it.

1) He took a much better job for a bunch more money. Any of you would have done the same thing.

2) Nothing about amateur or professional sports is "classy" to begin with - you leave that on the doorstep

3) Its the aggies - the more pain the better

4) Its the pigs - the more pain the better

He played them like a violin. That's today's basketball environment. He used UTEP, used A&M, used Arkansas, used A&M and now he's at Kentucky. Good luck with that.

Gillespie had been contacting recruits for weeks about him going to Kentucky. Cliff Tucker in ElPaso was offered a visit while they didn't have a head coach yet, imagine that. He's already got a verbal from CJ Vilarino of Texas ofr the 2009 class. Kid immediately popped to Kentucky after Gillespie called him. Anyone that was remotely on A$Ms radar is getting contacted.

DeAndre Jordan is the one the Kentucky faithful want more than anything. I'm betting he opts out of A$M and Clydes story will change after the dust settles. Now, the good news for Clyde-haters is that Jai Lucas & Patrick Patterson ook like they may go to Florida in package. They are between Kentucky and Florida. Lucas was a Kentucky lean while Tubby was around. Florida, barely in the picture. Now, w/Gillespie on board, they may not bnab these two which will be a monumental failure in month 1 for Clyde. The natives will go beserk
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

Jordan can't "opt out" at A&M. He has signed his national letter-of-intent. The school has to grant his release from his letter, and you can bet your last dime A&M won't. If he was a scrub player, a bottom-of-the-barrell guy, they might "as a show of good faith." But for a player of his caliber .... no way. The new coach will promise him the world, and will sweet-talk him as much as possible. If that doesn't work, they'll play him for a year and hope he goes pro after a year, rather than playing one year, sitting out a year and then transferring.
