I can't wait for spring practice. Hope we have a coach by then.
I think it makes a lot of sense to redshirt some guys if possible. You don't want 7 guys in one class. I'm a little surprised Rhodes is one of them
If we redshirt all 3, we'll have 7 freshmen in next years class. 4 incoming and 3 redshirts. Same situation, 1 year later.

I do agree that in BB redshirting is very rare. I wouldn't redshirt 3 kids-maybe 1 or 2. I don't really understand redshirting Rhodes. Generally, in BB either a kid can play or can't play. If he can't play we will wish he wasn't sitting at the end of the bench in his 5th year. The exception would be with a big guy like Kwiatowski(?) who generally take longer to develop. Is the thinking about Nyukundi that he may grow into a big kid. I've heard pretty reliable sources indicate he is still growing significantly. Isn't that what happened to the Rice kid-grew 3-5 inches or something.

I mentioned in a different thread that Robert had grown at least an inch between the Global Games over the summer, and the first day of regular practice. He was a late bloomer, and if the growth plates in his bones are still open (seems to be the case) another 1-2 inches are a real possibility. I'd still play him, though. He is good enough to contribute now, and without him our bench has no depth. Kwiatkowski would benefit from a redshirt year, and he is the only one I would redshirt. That's just my personal opinion, but that's the way I see it.

These are good players generally, which means they will have more grade and behavior issues then our normal players - we dont have to worry about them leaving at the same time - there will be some attrition.

Tomasz and Bennie played this afternoon so can they still redshirt? Hopefully there is a clear answer and this thread won't turn into a black hole of differing answers and quotes from the NCAA regs.

They played. No redshirt.

Doh said on the radio after the game that both Rhodes and Tomasz had made a decision not to red shirt. I got the clear indication that this was their choice. Doh said this was OK as we needed the depth.

I was wondering about the depth, but do believe that Tomasz should redshirt for his own benefit. However, he probably is smart enough to graduate on time so he probably would like to make some money rather than sit around for a 5th year of school.
