I hope he develops into a player.
On the flip side, I would have much rather seen us sign
Cameron Johnson, Lake Highlands, also 6'7".
He was interested in us, signed with Texas State.
I was impressed with his quickness & athletic ability @ the tourney over the weekend. I think he's going to be a good one.

Also, I saw where once committed to SMU recruit Jonathan Sloan scored 23 against Paul Quinn on Sunday @ the tourney.

Texas State has a really nice freshman class.

Sloan only played a few minutes against us and I understand he has only being playing limited minutes in the other TX state games. Maybe he got hot against PQ and the coach left him in the game.

I hope Sloan has a great career @ Texas State.
Having said that, I do think the correct choice was made by not signing him. However, I do wish we would have signed Johnson from LH

Sloan averages around 5 minutes per game, and about 5 points per game. In the 2 games where he played extensive minutes, UT-Pan Am and Paul Quinn, he put up bigger numbers, 20 and 23 points respectively. He has a chance to do well at Texas State.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Robert is still on the team for those of you wondering, he's still redshirting and nothing has changed. Apparently a reason for him redshirting is that coach wasn't happy with his weight

Umm..what did the kid weigh to get a redshirt?

Something tells me Doh is trying to balance this class. In essence, Nyakundi & Kwiatkowski will be frosh next year. Its possible the Rhodes may be in the same boat. Add them to Otis, Clarke, Dubois & Justin Haynes and thats 7. Smells like attrition or one of more of next years freshman getting a shirt as well.

Doherty stated that Nayakundi had things he needed to focus on off the court or something of that nature. Being that TK and Bennie were both given the chance to play or redshirt I must think that there is a good reason Nayakundi was not even given the option to play this season. Also, it is not certainty that TK or Bennie will be granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA.

Don't be shocked if Cameron Spencer is a victim of "attrition" by Doh.......

I don't have any hard proof to base this on but anyone who is putting forth maximum effort and busting his tail on the floor will not be run off by Doherty. I am sure that at some point someone will be run off the team ala Epps or Dez but it will be for a reason other than lack of talent.

I'm afraid your opinion of Doh is a little higher then most in the industry. He's a recruiter, far more then a bench coach, and if he needs to open a ship, he'll do it. Hoops ships are year to year and he treats them that way. He's not going to out coach people, so he needs better talent, that simple.

You may very well be right but at least in Doherty's tenure at SMU, he seems to reward those who put forth great effort and dedication on and off the court while those that have lacked in that area seem to be the ones "punished".

Last season Dez started off in the doghouse due to lack of effort/conditioning supposedly. End of the year, he left for UNT.

Last season Brian Epps had conditioning problems at the beginning of the year and then committed some team violations and was kicked off the team by Doherty, in spite of the fact that he was the second or third leading scorer.

This season the only freshman that was required to redshirt was Nayakundi who Doherty has said needs to focus and dedicate himself on some things (some of which of the court).

Ryan Harp is known to be one of the hardest workers on the team and always gives it his all. He also had arguable THE worst start of anyone to this season, yet continually got more equal or more minutes than those who seemed to be having more on court success at the time.

Granted this is only a year and a half sample set but I would like to think that it shows what Coach values in a player. If someone's 'ship is pulled for another incoming recruit it will never be viewed in a positive light and is very unfortunate for that player. I would just like to think that it won't happen to anyone that has done everything Doherty has asked of them and then some. Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but his tenure here suggests that it might be true.
