sure wish we had a guy like Vaden. He just caught fire and is carrying UAB. Killen carried us for about a 10 minute stretch, but he's no Vaden.
What are the buttons the coaching staff are wearing? On TV they look black and yellow. Is it Theta night?
i think so. Fiji and Theta were right behind the bench ![]()
Vaden just killed us down the stretch. Something like 4 of 5 late in the 2nd half from 3 point range. He was hitting 3 pointers from 4-5 feet behind the arc. Unreal.
Bamba and Papa were so cold in the low post - I think combined they were 7 of 25. But they weren't the only ones who couldn't seem to hit the short shots. 2 things were killing me during this game: 1) Why doesn't this team crash the boards, and follow their shots? That's basketball 101. My high school coach screamed and beat that into us day-in, day-out at practice. 2) Grab the rebound with both hands, and go right back up with it. If you don't hit the shot, maybe you draw the foul. Another very basic basketball principle.
They are all too busy talking and texting. It thoroughly annoys me Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Believe we were tied at the 8 minutes to go mark. Within 2 minutes we go down 12. Yeal Vaden got hot but we could not hit anything the last 10 minutes of the game. Missed way too many high percentage shots especially close to the basket. Bamba's game is so soft. Instead of being a force around the basket, he just tip toes around. Instead of jaming, he tries lay ups and misses. This UAB team was filled with Juco's and BCS transfers. It showed. Played down tto us and blew us out when it counted. Don't see any more wins this season.
Yes, I was more than a little disappointed in the fans as a whole. Not just the students. Don't get me wrong, the students do deserve their share of blame. At least twice I saw Coach Doh begging the students to get it going and they just pretty much looked at him with blank stares. This was a game where the crowd could have made a difference. Midway through the second half, the home team is leading by eight only to let it slip away. To a team that could have been up by twenty on the Mustangs at that point in the game. You never know. A unified chant of defense or the like and good things can happen. I have seen it happen before. Not tonight. Not much emotion from the crowd as a whole.
There certainly aren't any guaranteed wins, but I'd say that ECU and Rice are winnable.
:?: How is this happening?
UAB was coming off a 1 point loss to Memphis, and a big win over Houston, they were primed for a letdown, emotionally and physically. for MustangBill, I think ECU and Rice are both very beatable teams. Both are on the road, where we have really staggered, so I wouldnt go out on a limb and say we would be favored or anything like that, but both those teams are beatable. UTEP at Moody could be a close game. Memphis, I dont want to speculate on. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
It is our hope that Vaden goes pro...He is third best 3 point shooter in nation and could go pro but probably will come back for Davis...he transferred from Indiana...to UAB...He can hit from anywhere...Go Mustangs!!!
You are absolutely right. I get so frustrated watching these games and especially how we manage to lose some of them (those that we do not get totally blown out in), I lose my perspective. We do have a solid chance against ECU and Rice on the road and maybe UTEP at home. Hopefully, we can scrounge at least one victory out of those three games.
That comes from having recently watched the Mustangs lose games like this, (Tulsa, Marshall). If SMU had hung with them a little longer the crowd would have responded. I know - chicken or the egg, but in this case that's what I think.
The Fiji's that showed up didn't cheer hardly at all. I'm pretty sure whenever they were shown on TV they had their backs to the game as well. The Theta's tried in the last 10 minuets, but weren't too loud. My smaller section tried as well, but unfortunately I don't think we were too loud either (I got hit in the adams apple playing basketball on friday, so my voice was shot going into the game and now it hurts even more).
I'm really upset about this loss because I feel like we, as fans, let the team down in the stretch.
UAB was just going through the motions first half.
The big difference was when they woke up & decided to play some D. We could do nothing when they D'ed up. Also, Papa needs to work on his hands. He can't hold onto the ball. Finally, this is I don't know how many x's this year someone gets hot & we don't shut him down with a box & 1 or alternate fresh players to stick with the guy all over the court.
