Dia shows great flashes but then disappears, which you can blame on being a freshman. He has a very nice upside. He reminds me a lot of Brian Morris, who was a helluva talent but just couldn't get his head on straight.
Dia is better than Morris in my estimation. I think he just has better natural ability that Morris did. The thing that I liked about Morris was he had very good footwork for a freshman- he was far ahead of the curve in that department. He really came on towards the end of the season once he began to shed a bunch of his baby fat.
I'm not sure if he is practicing or not. I too would be much more encouraged by things if he were a player. From everything I have read and the little I have seen in person (opening weekend) and video clips the kid is athletic. Lets just hope he gets his head on straight.
They are both in the Zach Randolph mold - 6'9" lefties with a bulky frame, a surprisingly nice outside jumper and as you mentioned, great footwork.
Hoop, not arguing with your facts, just that "if" Doh had the opportunity he would have "liked" to have held back all these guys to get them ready to play college basketball. Not one of these kids is ready to jump to the NBA like some recruits at other schools. Doh took some chances with these guys because that was all he could get last year, and he probably hopes that one or two or three will grow to become good Div I players, to match with upcoming recruiting classes. Let's see what he does at point guard and who he can recruit.
