Nice win. The women have struggled at Tulsa over the last couple of years so this was a big win for them, no matter what Tulsa's record is. The women's side is a log-jam in the standings - that's what makes road wins a must if you want to finish towards the top. Take care of business at home - pick-up at least 3-4 wins on the road.

How SWEEP IT IS!

Terrific job this afternoon by the Ponies. I caught a couple of games at Moody when I visited Dallas a few weeks ago, but today was different — we've had a tough time up here in Tulsa.

Had a blast watching them play. I saw the game here last year and we looked scared. Today, it was Tulsa that looked scared. Brittany Gilliam was the star of the day — 19 points and 10 rebounds. The backup point guard, Lashandra Hill, also was very effective — Tulsa had nobody who could stay with her — and Alice Severin was far better shooting the ball than I remember her before. The freshman center, Elliott, was dominant at times.

I'd read about Jillian Samuels and her shooting, and she didn't score a single point. Delisha Wills is supposed to be one of our top two players (maybe the best) and she was pretty quiet and got hurt in the first half (ankle? Anyone know? She returned pretty quick). So even though we got less than 10 points combined from those two, we still won on the road in a place where we've had trouble before. I'm not sure why, but this was a game in which it felt like our coaches always were a couple of steps ahead of the Tulsa coaches (which makes sense).

If any of you have a chance to be in New Orleans or El Paso for the games against Tulane and UTEP, I can't recommend it enough. We might not have the star power we had last year, but it looked like we're a better, more balanced team.

I hate TU and its annoying fans, and love any chance to claim bragging rights — way to go, Mustangs!

It was a fun trip, on the flight up I got to sit with the UT tennis team, and we had a long chat about their baseball coach and his drinking problem.

SMU actually trailed through the first half, but opened the 2nd half with a 15-0 run that gave us the lead for good. That run was possibly the best 4 minutes I've ever seen our team play, the guards broke down the Tulsa zone with dribble penetration and then dished to the posts who finished the play strong at the basket, or kicked it outside to open wing players. On defense we had our hands in the passing lanes, forced turnovers, and turned the steals into fast break opportunities. That run was complete dominance, indicative of how we can play at our best.

This was our first win at Tulsa in several years. Tulsa used to be a good team, it was just 2 years ago that they won the conference and made the NCAA tournament. Their former coach was hired away, and the new coach has failed to maintain the quality of the program. It was good to get a win in a gym where we've struggled in the past.

The Reynolds center is a nice facility. Oh, and no problems with ticket lines or concessions, I wonder how they do that? Not even when the place was packed for the Tulsa-Marshall men's game on Saturday night.

The Renaissance Hotel in Tulsa is a nice place, and I recomend it if anyone is going up to watch our men's game there, or the football game in the fall. Comfortable rooms, nice restaraunt, located right next to a very large shopping complex with lot's of restaraunts ranging from fast food and sports bars, to more family dinner type place. The location is about a 10-12 minute drive (light traffic) from the Tulsa campus, on hwy. 169. The hotel get's the official XTC seal of approval. The Tulsa folks seemed to like it, too. They had a bunch of football recruits staying there on Saturday.

Didn't the previous Tulsa coach go to Colorado?

Yes, Katherine McConnell-Miller is now the head coach at Colorado. The Lady Buffs had a nice run in the WNIT last year, before losing to Marquette. This year they are struggling a bit in a very stacked conference. I guess you cant expect much when Brittany Spears is your best player (no kidding, it's her real name).

One other thing I forgot, Central Florida lost to Southern Miss yesterday, so there is now a 6-way tie for first place.

Gotta take care of business at home and pick up at least 3 more road wins. That gives the team 18 wins going into the conference tournament. Anything can happen in the tourney - just depends on the match-up's.

This is a very even league this year. Last year, SMU and UTEP were head and shoulders above the rest, but there is no clear-cut heavyweight this year. We could finish anywhere in the top six, and we could go one-and-out in the conference tournament, or win the thing again. But a lot of people had written us off after Janielle Dodds and the rest graduated, and Coach Rompola is doing one hell of a job and showing she is a truly elite coach.
