You oldtimers will remember CBS On the Road with Charles Kuralt.

Following the 25-point humdinger against UCF, let's check out life on the road with the coach of the men's basketball team.

First: 0-7
Second: Avg. margin of loss 13.3
Third: Closest halftime deficit was 6 at Northwestern. Trailed by at least nine in the others.
Fourth: Never shot above 43.5 percent in of the games
Fifth: Averaged 50.3 points per game

I want to thank to the keepers of this site for stripping this thread and the Papa Dia thread overnight.

All I want is a justified response for why they were removed. PM if you can. I really find it hard to believe if we're going to be critical, that we're limited in how we criticize. Unless somebody put something up that deemed it ugly.

Other than that, I find it funny how the Covenant thread and Horns/Baylor thread stay up and these are gone within hours.

Again, it's selective enforcement. Maybe the SID or Orsini is trying to control the content.

Interesting statistic is that we have won a total of 2 conference road games in the Doh era. His first year against UAB & last year @ Rice.
Throw in a win against UTSA & Centenary & I think you have a total of 4 road wins in his 2 1/2 years as HC.

I'm beginning to feel like Doh is the type of coach that can come into a program & get something out of the existing players on the roster but when they graduate & he has to depend on the players he recruits the results drop pretty dramatically.
Isn't that what happened @ Notre Dame & North Carolina?

I believe that all of Roy William's national champion starters were Doh recruits. Knock on Doh at UNC was that he was a bad bench coach.

See, that's the thing though. It's not Doh's recruits per se that are the problem, it's the fact that once the previously coached players graduate, the players that he coaches by himself do NOT produce on the court. I feel like he is able to coach players from a previous regime, that know what the hell is going on, but he's never able to instill that into his own players. Quite simply, he's not able to provide the coaching necessary to prepare recruits to play at the D1 level.

Thats the problem w/hoops in general. More athletes than ball players. Hopefully coach will identify and secure the kinds of players that fit his coaching style.

Rhonda struggled w/this for a couple years after Newlee left. talented players...didnt fit the program though...and they suffered. Same w/Dement and the Sasser/BHop experiments. Never amounted to wins.

This team has talent...they were just underdeveloped prior to signing and development is obviously not 1 of SMUs strongpoints. So it makes the situation even more frustrating cuz you have all this undeveloped talent. Like a thought on the tip of your tongue you cant quite get all the way out.

When you consistently get off to poor starts, you pretty much back yourself into a corner. It's hard to recover.

IMO, winning on the road requires extraordinary mental toughness because you have so many elements working against you.

Look at Clemson at Va. Tech on Thursday night. The Tigers fell behind by as many as 15 and stormed back to take the lead, lost it, and found something in the last 2 minutes to pull out the win.

When we talk about lack of chemistry or toughness or other things that hurts this team, that's why you're pulling an o-fer.
