the one problem with college hoops

Postby Hoop Fan » Sat Feb 14, 2009 9:55 pm

tough loss, hats off to McCoy again. Dia came to play too which is not something that i thought was likely to happen again this year.

Anyway, i didnt see the game, but the foul calls tell quite a story. I love college hoops, but the game has a problem. The constant jobbings and lopsided whistles for the home team (or alot of home teams) really get ridiculous. Arizona beat a superior UCLA team today. Arizona shot something like 30 free throws to UCLAs 9. C'mon.

SMU gets little to no advantage at home unfortunately. Most of it is we don't have a large or intimidating crowd. Doherty is also not a coach that works the officials or demands calls. The other thing that i have always thought to be a factor is being in Dallas. Its easy for the supervisors of officials to get here to review and evaluate officials in person. I would venture a guess that many a nights there are eyes in stands and at the table that the refs are aware of at Moody which nudges them to bend over backwards to be "impartial".

When your program gets a reputation, that will change. Some of those calls will mysteriously go your way. We haven't been jack since 1993.

Fall knows about that all to well. He has more travels than any player I have ever seen. Does he lead all-time travels at SMU?

HF, this is sometimes a problem -- although the NBA is awful and very biased to players and arenas.

UAB attempts - 33 (81%)
SMU attempts - 9 (44%)

A loss by UAB to SMU would eliminate any hope of UAB going to the dance unless they win the conference tournament so it benefited CUSA to have UAB win.

A difference of 24 FT attempts is huge. This would have been a big story & alot of screaming & complaining if we weren't @ the bottom. Still, I would be shocked if Matty & Steve O didn't file some type of complaint with the conference.

No crying about the refs & no conspiracy theory. Just alot of ?'s.
